Re: No Power Folding Mirrors?

So does that mean Canada gets the power folding mirrors?

Re: No Power Folding Mirrors?

Might not be plug-n-play to install. What about the added wiring possibly needed in the harness, for starters? And where does the control go?

Re: No Power Folding Mirrors?

I happen to do a LOT of travel overseas mostly western Europe and would like to know this as well, because if I can order or if they will work on my jeep here I am definitely going to pick some up!

Re: No Power Folding Mirrors?

I am so confused right now. Some people on here are saying power folding mirrors were never offered in the U.S.. Others are saying it was a pre production option that was deleted. I own an 06 Overland WK that has power folding mirrors also, and it is not an export. Just turn the knob 180 degrees on the mirror adjustment dial (at least on my 06), and the mirrors both fold in. Couldn't that option be retrofitted into the new WK2?

Re: No Power Folding Mirrors?

the "powered" folding mirrors were only available on the 06 and early 07 US spec Overlands. They have always been on the export models because of the tight roadways, alleys etc. in Europe, asia etc.

I would assume the mirrors would have to be swapped along with some other stuff.(yeah...thats general I know...but there probably no use in going into it as it would cost a small fortune)

Well either way if an insider can let us know if it is possible to swap I would be happy to arrange a group buy from a European jeep dealer I sometimes stay near and import them myself. I would love to have them and seems like there is some interest here as well.

Re: No Power Folding Mirrors?

you would need a complete door harness, bcm and the telematics box to go along with the mirrors. You could try just getting the mirrors and see if ChryCo snuck in a little treat...but its rare. Also...I would assume the mirrors to ber VERY expensive. I make that assumption on my experience in buying the 05-06 European rear taillamps for the WK. They cost me $420 US to get over here. I would expect the mirrors to be double that themselves.

Re: No Power Folding Mirrors?

Swapping in power folding mirrors into a WK2 might not be as complicated as one might think. Some might remember a how to thread over at wkjeeps.com on retrofitting power folding mirrors into a limited 05. Im that person I actually did it and believe it or not it was easy. Hardest part was locating and buying a mint condition set of folding mirrors. Everything else was cake. I ordered the switch from the dealership. NO modules, or computer programming was required. I am willing to bet it would be just as easy in the WK2 but the only problem would be getting the folding mirrors since they do not come on U.S. models.

Yep....you were lucky and had the correct telematics module. I tried the exact same swap and it didnt work. Wasted my time and money.

Ahh that stinks maybe it was because mine was a Limited and if I remember correctly you might have been swapping them into a Laredo? maybe had something to do with it I dont know. Also, I did not have to use any factory wiring or modules. I simply ran wires from the mirror to the power folding mirror switch to 12V switched. Worked exactly like oem without using any OEM harness or modules. If you did it with the method I just mentioned technically you could have installed those mirrors and used them like OEM in a honda civic. Again, I simply wired directly from the power fold in and fold out wires, right to the mirror switch on the door, and got the 12v switched from anywhere in the car. Is this how you tried it?

Re: No Power Folding Mirrors?

yep.....I also added the uconnect mirror, auto dimming mirrors(inside and out) and a few other things. My telematics module was from an 07 SRT. If you had a limited....Im gonna guess it was already in the limited/overlands module.

Anyway...the thread is about the 2011's. I was advised by a Jeep engineer you would need the above to add the folding mirrors. he may have just been general or telling me what was needed to make it oem. Adding the mirors and power wire like you said...may work as well. We will just have to find out if the EUro 2011's use a switch or what?

Exactly. If its a simple switch similar to the older WK's then I would imagine it can be done just like my how-to installation. Again, I think the hardest part will be acquiring the switch and mirrors especially since they are not available in the U.S. and considering how new the WK2's are. However if its more advanced and closes the mirrors say when you put the car in park and is activated via the EVIC then I would imagine we are pretty much screwed.
