No Water Pumps

Severely frustrated. I took my '12 Hemi for an oil change one week ago, 10-14-13. Dealer had it all day, finally found out at the end of the day it needed another water pump. It has 41k on it. Had a previous water pump put in at 18k, again when I took it in for an oil change. This will be the 3rd pump in 41k.

To make it worse, there are NO WATER PUMPS IN THE ENTIRE USA FOR REPAIRS! They are hoping to have one by November 12th. That will be one month. I'm in a rental and they give you 5 days apparently. I just found this out today, day 7. I called Jeep, CS said they will open an "escalation ticket", and can take 4-5 days to hear back. Also opened a ticket to whoever reviews extending the car rental.

I'm not paying for their lack of ability to plan and stock parts that continuously fail. The initial Jeep contact was nice but a little dismissive, probably because she hears it all the time and can't do anything about it.

This is what gives Chrysler a bad name. One month at the earliest for a water pump. My Jeep is just sitting on the back lot of the dealer. I have liked the Jeep to this point but this is a borderline deal breaker for me. It is literally worthless IMO. I have owned lots of cars and never, ever, been in this position with a vehicle. Poor planning by Chrysler. Just a quick google pops up all the water pump problems they have had for years. My Jeep has all my gate passes affixed to the windshield and they are non-removable, another pain in the ass with the rental.

Anyway, any of you battle tested veterans have any advice to get right to it with Jeep? I have lots of ideas but never had to deal with this before.
Thanks in advance.

Why is the waterpump bad? How did they diagnose it? Did you have issues with it or you just took it in for service and they told you? I think you might have a dealer problem and not a Chrysler problem. Tell them to go out on the lot and pull one from a 13 sitting around!

Re: No Water Pumps

Welcome to our world downunder in Australia.
It seems that EVERY PART will take 6 weeks to arrive as they have never heard of airfreight. I think it is just poor planning and poor customer support. There are many horror stories of less than year old JGC's being off the road for 6+ weeks because of this lack of supply.

Enforcer,
couldn't agree more on the availability of parts down under.
I found indent marks on the leather seat of my SRT on delivery, and worked out that the small plastic splash guards had been placed on the rear seat and the seat folded down during shipment.
Although CJA agree the seat needs to be replaced, they can't because there is no listed part number for a rear seat!
It apparently will take months to create a new part number in the system so they can order it!
I know this extends to all manner of parts, but items like water pumps, alternators and power steering components should be stacked 20 deep in a warehouse somewhere so that the customers who put their hard earned cash into Chryslers pocket can at least get back on the road within a reasonable time frame.

Re: No Water Pumps

I think it is time for a new dealer. The Hemi is not a new engine and I doubt there are no water pumps anywhere in the US (Mopar or aftermarket).

Was the Jeep overheating or leaking coolant? I would be pissed if the dealer removed the pump before checking on a replacement. It if was fine when you brought it in, I would get it back ASAP.

I would call around to some independent mechanics and see if they can take a look at it and get a replacement pump. Sure, you will have to pay for it, but it is better than having your Jeep sit for a month.

Re: No Water Pumps

Both times I just took it in for an oil change and they told me it needed a new pump. The first time I even talked to the mechanic, he said he couldn't believe how bad it looked and he was shocked. Had to get a rental car for 3 days on that one so they could get a water pump.

This time same thing. Brought it in for an oil change and to replace a rear leaking shock that they saw on my last oil change and had to order but never called me when it came in.

I have had 4 oil changes at the dealer and 2 of them have required water pumps. BTW, no fluid on the ground or over heating. Absolutely no outward signs from my end. Scary. I guess I have to constantly try to check the coolant level to guess if the water pump is doing ok?

I called O'reilly auto parts to see if they carried them and they told me it was special order from the manufacturer. No one else has had bad water pumps? I read online that if the belts are too tight it can cause premature failure? Maybe something else is the primary problem?

Re: No Water Pumps

Something else is going on. The 5.7L is not known for eating water pumps.
I think they are fixing the symptom and not the problem.

The jeep may be a great value, but not when it comes to service.

Or, perhaps a service department that actually pulls a water pump without getting permission from the customer to do so, needs a severe thwack upside the head with a clue bat.

On an oil change they are supposed to give your vehicle an INSPECTION. Period. As in without your permission, initiate no other repair actions.

Dunno what state the OP is in, but some states have had such bad repair tactics in the past that this would be repair fraud even if the part did need replacement.

Re: No Water Pumps

Your first post states no waterpumps in the entire USA. Your icon shows your state as Arizona. Now you are changing your story to living in Australia. I think this whole post is BS quite frankly.

Huh? The OP "changed his story" to living in Australia? Where?

And you are talking about posting BS...funny!

I don't see where the OP changed his story to living in Australia... I think you're confusing things. A couple of Australians commented about how their parts are so hard to come by--so they were sympathizing and relating how they ALWAYS have this kind of problem.

Back to the issue...I do find it strange that there would be no 5.7 water pumps anywhere in the U.S....I would question that story from the dealer.
