Re: NON TRAIL RATED Wk2 safe water treading depth

Your Altitude is as "trail rated" as you want it to be within the limitations of it's drivetrain. It's just a "name". As mentioned, all JGC are identical in this respect, outside of how one might equip them to protect against certain hazards, such as adding skid plates, etc.

Yeah, I don't disagree and it's good for my use. But all things equal, it's odd that they chose to market that pos as trail rated and there's a slew of WK2s that are not, by their standards.

I guess they needed more help selling the car.

I know I see that all the time. I pull up next to an old base Liberty and it's got the badge and my 2014 Limited doesn't.

I think it used to be if you had a low gear they slapped the badge on.

Re: NON TRAIL RATED Wk2 safe water treading depth

pretty easy to figure out its stated in the manual i have read it in there and not about to find it again, it will be around 400mm which isnt alot. this takes into account wheel seals, axle, diff and g/box and transfer case breather positions. any 4x4 can go much deeper dependent on the air intake position in your case above the headlight, get water in there and you will hydraulic lock at the least, worst case bend rods. as long as you are moving door seals and body seals generally keep the water out but once you stop water will find its way in. anyone that intends to do any major water crossings should consider extending all there breather tubes to at minimum air intake heights..

Re: NON TRAIL RATED Wk2 safe water treading depth

On the GC, indeed it is 20". Most likely to water intrusion in the transmission or something electronic/ electrical. the diff and transfer case are buttoned up well and have breathers routed. Extending breather tubes is always a good idea though.
After that, the BOTTOM of your airbox is the limit. Or, about the bottom of the headlight. Even though the intake is above the headlight, it snakes down and enters the air filter compartment at the bottom. It is not air tight there. It even has drain hole to let any rain evacuate.

Yea, but they will happily make any WK2 "Trail Rated" if you buy the badge.
