NON TRAIL RATED Wk2 safe water treading depth

I have a 2011 wk2 with leveling kit and stock 20s, curious if anyone has done any water treading in their non trail rated Jeep and what depths it can survive

Not like I've done it, but I think that if it's over your exhaust pipe, you can't let off the throttle bc the back pressure will suck water into the engine..

Again, just what I have heard concerning any car, unless you have a snorkel.

'Just as an aside, "Trail Rated" is just a badge...all of the JGCs have the same abilities around what you are asking about. It's just something that comes with the ORA packages along with some skid plates, tow hooks, 18" wheels, etc.

What? No. There is always pressure exiting the tailpipe when the engine is running, throttle open or closed. It's the other end you have to be careful of - the intake.

Just what I heard.. So, no back pressure is created when you take your foot off the gas pulling water in?

LOL... that reminds me of playing around crossing water holes in the bottoms on my old Honda 3-wheeler. As long as you kept the air intake (located under the headlight) above water you could run that sucker submerged. I could describe how funny the exhaust sounded underwater but I'll leave that up to your imagination or childhood memories.

Its the intake thats sucking in air and water unless you have a snorkel above water level.

LOL... I know, sorry for going off topic. What Wiz said just made me think of that.

No, when you take your foot off the throttle, your exhaust system does not become an intake system.

There is older folklore about an engine shutoff/stall out with the exhaust system submerged pulling water into the engine as the engine cools. Didn't appear to happen on military units [not stupid enough to risk one I'd have to pay for]

Re: NON TRAIL RATED Wk2 safe water treading depth

I'm kind of amused that a Jeep Patriot I owned about 6 years ago was "Trail Rated" and my 4WD Altitude isn't.
