Noob with Iphones - help!

Searched. Own an Overland with RHR.

I just got my wife an Iphone 4s and have no idea how the thing works with the Jeep, with the exception of figuring out the Bluetooth.

For perspective, I'm from the 80's. I have a flip phone I got for free with a 2 year cell package

What cable do I need to hook it up so it charges?

Do you guys buy an aftermarket Iphone mount?

You don't use Uconnect right? Or do you?

Any insight would be valuable.

Thanks

Re: Noob with Iphones - help!

Mounts are lame when it comes to the iPhone. I'd rather have mine hooked up to cable and sitting in my lap which is easier for phone calls.

I don't like to have it connected through Bluetooth for privacy reasons.

Re: Noob with Iphones - help!

The cable you will need is the USB that comes with the iPhone. If you are looking to purchase one, don't go to any store as they charge up to $30 for a cord.
For charging, on the head unit there is a tab that'll pop off for USB connection, just plug the iPhone to that and it'll charge it. There's no need for a mount though, seems a bit unnecessary.

Re: Noob with Iphones - help!

A lot of folks just pair the iPhone 4s via Bluetooth and throw the phone in the center console. Seems to work great for them, you can use Siri too, check the special AV forum above.

http://jeepgarage.org/forumdisplay.php?f=155

The RHR seems to integrate well with the 4s, no real need to mount it as you can control music, make and receive calls via the RHR interface. Seems to work well for most. To make or recieve a call, the phone will ring through to the RHR and you press the phone button on the stearing wheel and talk, either to comand the radio to dial a number, or to the person that called you.

As far as cable, the iPhone probably came with a charger/USB cable. You use the same cable and plug it into the socket at the rear of the top half of the console. This is an Accessory switched power outlet as well as a USB connection to the radio. If you want constant power only, there is a 12V socket in the bottom front of the console. You would need a 12V cig lighter to USB converter to use that socket.

ProKit sells mounts that clip to the vent outlet.
