I was setting behind my wife's WK2 tonight at a stoplight. I could admire the rear of the vehicle including the exposed rear suspension arms, exhausts, etc. It looked great, but what do I see, is that rust? Yes, an exhaust flange on the driver's side is rusting as well as the hanger and it is visible for all to see. Am I overreacting here? In taking a quick survey of other vehicles, no one else seems to have this problem. I will write this off as an error by the Jeep design team.

No rust proofing will stay on an exhaust system or hanger. It gets burned off quickly, and smells too!

Exhausts flanges will always get some type of surface rust, it's only cosmetic. Usually the flanges and hangers on modern vehicles aren't low grade stainless like the tubular parts and mufflers of the system, but rather just normal mild steel.

Its sounds as though the WK2's design just makes the system more visible to the eye.

I would spray a product like WD40 on the affected areas, it will tend to darken the rust and will last a while before reapplication is needed.

Again, its only cosmetic.

Mine was like that after the first month. Why they had to attach the driver side exhaust pipe separately at the rear I will never know. I painted mine silver because it bugged me too.

I have been considering painting all the silver parts in the rear black. It bugs me how bad they stand out. The rear silencers are painted back, but all the pipes you see are silver???

Hah... Noticed the same thing on mine this morning when I was bringing in the garbage cans.

Same here. Rust on driver side exhaust flange and hanger. Only 1200 miles on the vehicle since I picked it up last November. My wife noticed it a week ago while driving behind me. I wonder if that could be replaced/covered under the warranty?

That is normal wear and tear they are not going to replace those parts under warranty for surface rust. Take a look at your drive shafts they are going to be nothing but solid rust.

If anyone is that worried about it:

Clean the area of rust
Paint it with a high temp quality paint
Problem solved!
