Judging by the fact no one has come out with one and they no longer make the 5 speed, odds are it's not going to happen.

Well you can but it isn't financially viable.

The 5 speed is pretty solid. Check around the forums. Not everyone is happy with the 8 it has some bugs to work out.

Btw. From your original question. If you are at a stop and you have your hand on the shifter and it move ever so slightly to the left you have selected first gear hold.

Well, I for one am very happy with my V6 paired with a 5 speed. And I came from a MB 7G box.
Have driven the 2014 and no doubt it is fine but at least you know where you stand with the 5 speed and round town it works particularly well IMHO.

I can agree with this. compared to the 5.3 and 6 speed in my Yukon and many other tranny's this unit shifts very smooth and is always in the right gear.

Re: Not happy with the 5 speed transmission

I guess it depends on your driving style. I've got both and I think I actually prefer my '11 with the 5 speed. Nothing really wrong with the 8 speed but, to me, it seems to shift a little early in the lower gears and lugs down a bit.

When I first got my '11 it did the same thing on the 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th shift but there was a TSB that changed the shift points a little and I've been happy with it every since.

The '14 seems to lug a little on the shifts during a slow, steady acceleration but I guess it okay if you "get on it" a little or use the Sport mode. Hey, I'm old and drive easy for the better mileage.

From day one, i actually was so surprised how smooth my 5 speed is, and when flooring the jeep the the gear changes are like lightning, i'm pretty sure the crd engine transforms the 5 speed because when test driving the petrol v6 the transmission was nowhere near as good as mine, no lugging on upshifts because of the crd's superior low down torque.

Re: Not happy with the 5 speed transmission

Here is an update to my issue with the 5 speed. I bought a Diablo Trinity programer and downloaded a new map for the Jeep. With a few adjustments my issues are resolved. More low end torque much better and smoother shifting, better throttle response and now I can cruise through slow moving traffic without my transmission jerking up and down the gears....

Maybe jeep should hire the diablo programmer guys lol. My 2011 5spd was rough and lugged also.

Re: Not happy with the 5 speed transmission

Initially my 5 speed seemed unsure of which gear to choose, but after 10,000 miles or so it "learned" how to behave. 37,000+ miles now and cruising along nicely.

Bought my 2011 Ltd V6 with 30,000 on clock and gearbox performs perfectly well. Going to assume previous owner "taught" it well! Favourites he had left on the GPS were mainly ski resorts in Rockies. Not sure if that says anything!
