No, that would be the species. Ash is a type of tree. like Oak, but with a wider grain.

Yes "Ash" is a tree, but they also have millions of colors of stains that usually have a name of a wood in it. You can stain pine with a cherry stain, that doesn't make it cherry wood.

Sicilian Ash is the color. It may be ash wood but there is no "Sicilian Ash" tree.

Re: Not real burl wood?

Regardless of what theyre calling it, it is for sure Ash, it's a shame that they would stain a cheap open grain species rather than using something that has the shade they want.

I buy ash for 13 cents a bf. I make templates from Ash or MDF, but its usually cheaper to use Ash. It's the spruce of hardwoods. There is probably $2.00 worth of wood in the Jeep.

Thanks for the lesson, and not to toot my own horn, but I make high end furniture for a living, I have studied fine furniture, and worked with some of the most well respected chairmakers in the world. My work has been published in newspapers, magazines, television.

So to me, they really cheaped out on the wood selection in the WK2, although any real wood is better than the plastic "wood" in mine lol

Re: Not real burl wood?

Yes, for Overland, they use real wood.

Mine was warped and replaced...

I agree. My issue was the earlier builds had the burl wood. I am no wood expert at all, but you can tell production changed and less desirable wood was chosen.

The good part is at least mine is all the same color.

That's just sound's sad, lol, although I'm sure it takes a lot of work to get it looking like it does.

No, it probably took a long time for a guy to write a program, but then it's just sent to a CNC machine to be mass produced. I bet there is no human woodworking involved in these Jeeps. Even the finish is probably sprayed by a robot.
