It's not the sound of all V6s its this one in particular. Where something like the VW VR6 or Nissan's VQ sounds pleasant, this sounds cheap and thrashy.

Another interesting note, this car lacks enough power to spin the tires. Even in a turn. With TC off. Yep.
Interestingly enough I've owned both a VR6 ('99.5 Jetta when they first came out) and VQ (2006 Pathfinder I still own). I have to agree, they are exceptions to the rule when making a 6 sound good.

I'm looking forward to hearing how the CRD sounds...then making a choice between that and the Hemi. Hopefully the 8speed will be more settled feeling in those, high torque, motors.

That crappy V6 Charger will blow away your Hemi Jeep. I have not driven neither, but based on test reports, it wouldn't be close.

My thoughts, too...I often find rental cars to be pigs, but not always.

I'm guessing different strokes for different folks. I would love at least one more gear on my 2012 WK2 but overall I'd say the V6 compares fairly well with the X5 3.0 I6 I replaced. Not quite as much oomph at the low range, better than the X5 at the high end. Neither one growls like a sports car (although the Bimmer certainly drove like one). Moves all that 4x4 gear and body plates nicely and dare I say satisfyingly (it could also be because I get mellower as I get older).

You have a point.
Horse power to weight is way off.

V6 Charger = 4000 lbs
......
V8 Jeep wk2 = 5000 lbs

I don't think the 100 HP difference is gonna be enough to make up the
1000 lbs.

I'm not getting in this one, but I thought I would remind you of the drag from all the running gear.

Maybe, I would try that race out on a street somewhere. I have a 2011 Hemi JGC. I have raced a few cars with mine and it is usually close. I lost to a Nissan Altima 3.5, but not by much.

The V6 people claim has enough power in the Jeep, is lacking in power to get this Charger out of its own way. And then there's the sound - it's very quiet, but the noises it does make suck, so it's not really a bad thing that it's quiet.

And the 8 speed transmission is flat out crap. It's CONSTANTLY shifting, and has no idea what the hell gear it wants to be in or should be in. It's literally the WORST transmission I've driven yet, I'd prefer a 4 speed automatic to this 8 speed.

Honestly, if the Jeep's version of the 8 speed is this bad, all the people waiting for it in the 2014 are going to be VERY disappointed. Makes me glad my Overland has the old 5/6 speed auto.

The best thing I can say about this car is it isn't an Impala.
Interesting. As others have wondered -- are you sure it's the 8-speed? What trim level do you have? Also I wonder if "resetting" the transmission's memory would help?

Also, from what I've seen the 0-60 times for the 8 speed charger are a little over a second faster than the V8 WK2. (Edmunds got 7.1 for the V8 8-speed Charger and 8.2 for the V8 WK2.)

Here's one positive review: Review: 2012 Dodge Charger SXT Plus | The Truth About Cars

I'm not discounting your opinion or experience with the Charger, however I'm just wondering if there's something else at play here (hopefully there is, as I do plan on waiting for the 2014 WK2... at the moment at least). Maybe the thing needs a transmission software update like the WK2 did early in its life, and being a rental, it never got it?

Another possibility: maybe you've adapted your driving style / throttle control to make the allegedly-weird 5/6 speed WK2 transmission drive better, and the 8-speed doesn't like that?

A Hemi (non-SRT8) Jeep is slow. IMO, it is not lacking in HP or torque, simply throttle response. I have a MY11 Overland now with 27k miles. This past weekend both a new MDX and CR-V, yes a CR-V out accelerated my mighty Jeep from a stop. FWIW, I had 1/4 tank of gas (Shell 89) and no passengers. I normally don't race but both situations were the same. Stop light, 2 lane road merging into one.

It will be interesting to see if the acceleration improves on the MY14's.

Could be worse, you could be driving 5.7 with the obnoxious shudder and enraging 545RFE (been there, done that)

You do realize that rental companies almost never apply TSBs or Recalls do you not?

OP Post a picture of this so called turd.
