I'm in Durham NC and I got the 4x4. I think nearly all the Jeeps I see *on the road* are 4x4. When I was shopping for remnant 2013s earlier this year, there were largely only 4x2s on the lots. They don't sell as well IMHO.
I'm near Augusta GA and the dealers stock very few 4x4 GCs. If they have 25 on the lot there may be 1 or 2 Summit 4x4s but most of the time all they have are 4x2s. I got so frustrated when looking for my '11, I drove to Richmond VA to get my Laredo X 4x4 in the color I wanted. The dealers tell me folks in GA don't need a 4x4 and don't want to pay the extra cost and maintenance. At the same time, half of the pickup trucks of all makes on the lots around here are 4x4.

This issue begs the question of the road utility of 4x4. While I have owned a 4x4 since the mid 70s and had considerable miles off road, the early vehicles were 4x4 selectable. Starting in the late 90s, I began driving vehicles that were either 4x4 on demand or AWD.
Folks who buy 4x2 Grand Cherokees because they figure they won't be doing off road driving are missing out on the on road value of all four wheels being driven, IMHO.
Obviously a geographical issue. 3 dealers within 9 miles of my home and I have never seen a 4x2 there. However I can see the reason for it in flat snowless areas... towing, delivery vehicle, mall crawler. However they should not be called Jeeps... maybe Jeepsters... remember those?
I had to order my Overland from the factory in order to get 4X4. Sure, it doesn't snow in San Antonio, but I do get around to plenty of other places and I sure do appreciate having it when pulling my boat up those slimy boat ramps!
