Re: Off-Road I Package Owners

I don't think factory plates and hooks total 500 lbs.

Not even close. Someone on the board added them up and total were like 150lbs. Definitely worth it for me!

I stand corrected then. I was just making a guess. Seems like they have lightened plates up quiet a bit over the years.

The main component to ORA is a two speed transfer case as in QTII which is NOT addable to a vehicle with QTI, the accessories such as skids, hooks and badge can be added to just about any JGC, exceptions being SRT and maybe Summit if I'm not mistaken.

I think it has something to do with Jeep's concern that only driver's are granted Trail Rated status by the badges. Having them on the passenger side might suggest to passengers that they, too, are now competent to drive in difficult off road conditions. There is talk of providing a sub dermal chip for Trail Rated drivers that is electronically tied to the driver's side badge. Should work on the same premise as the fingerprint password on the new iPhone.

Actually QTII is available on most trim levels with the 4x4 system. The biggest difference the ORAII brings is limited slip differential.

I said ORA I can be added to any vehicle which is just hooks, badge, and plates.

Now I'm confused...are we talking pre delivery here? Your original post made it sound like you were implying ORA could be added after market which can not be if the Jeep is QTI (base Laredo for instance) I know QTII is available on any trim level and am well aware of the differences between ORA I & II but thanks for pointing that out!

gaidin43, slightly off topic, I JUST bought a Limited two days ago and in a fit of retardation I didnt even realize I did not have the towing package on it.

the hitch you bought - is it the proper Jeep one with the harness and plugs? Did they install it? If its that cheap, I will have it installed ASAP! I don't tow that often but I am going to miss not having the hitch.

Now assuming you typically tow a lot, how the hell did you allow that to happen? LOL.

You're going to miss some things too. Towing package has rear leveling suspension. Higher output alternator. And I believe either a tranny cooler or oil cooler. Or maybe both.

Re: Off-Road I Package Owners

The hitch part number is 82212180AB, Class IV Trailer Hitch, Original Equipment Hitch Kit includes bezel. It goes for about $200 now. I guess it went up a little bit. There is a plastic bezel that comes with it which requires a small cut in the plastic one you have now. (2011-2014 yr Models)

MOPAR Trailer 7-Way Tow Wiring Harness, (With 4-Way Adapter) Note: must use dealer scan tool to activate. (THIS IS FOR THE 2013 Model Year) Part Number 82212196AB $108.99

2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 7 WAY PLUG TRAILER HITCH CONNECTOR WIRING Part number 56055632AC (about $40). Not sure if this comes with the full wiring harness for lights and brakes. I can't find the rest of the diagram.

You will be missing the shocks, 220 alternator, and the cooler, but if you don't tow a lot or anything heavy, the regular hitch is an easy and quick upgrade that lets you tow Uhaul trailers, or whatever else. Easy, quick, and useful upgrade to any vehicle. Helps with resale a little too.
