I love them, but I also use my Jeep off road, so i have taken a pretty good size chunk out of one. The 18's would be nice, but they don't look as good at all. They do fine if you put some nice off road tires on them though.

You should post more pics of you wheelin!

Is there something technical where you cant have this combo? Thx.

Thats just the way Jeep markets the WK2. Frustrating. Why they don't offer the 20 inch as an option I dunno except that perhaps they don't want to encourage use of the 20s on rocky debris filled trails.

Your choice is to buy a WKs equipped with the 20s, add the skid plates and tow hooks or buy an ORA and then gets yourself 20s from a discount shop and a decent 20 inch summer tire. You may/may not be able to sell the OEM 18s for a decent price, or keep them for winter/off road use.

In 2011 it was most economical by far to purchase a vehicle equipped with 20 inch wheels, then add skid plates and tow hooks if you want (most clubs require them). 20s were so expensive aftermarket where skid plates and tow hooks are relatively cheap. Many here, like me, also added a set of 18 inch wheels to beat up and run winter tires on. Its more complicated in 2012 as ORA includes QL and QD (V8 models). If you want those features on anything other than an overland, then you are pretty much stuck, I think, with ordering ORA and then look for 20s aftermarket. Not sure how things are working for 2013.

You can also ask your dealer to make the swap, but expect to pay top dollar.

You may want to build two vehicles with the options you want, one with 20s without ORA, and one with 18s/ORA and compare the delta to adding the missing pieces post delivery. With ORA you get the QL suspension and QD (with the v8) which you may not be able to get otherwise in models lower than the overland. QL may not be high on your list of desirables.

Re: Off Road Package Requirements

You need the ORA2 for the E locker also. The stock 20s look good but the offset is not good for wider tires. I took off the 18s and put on 20" Boss wheels with 25mm offset oposed to the 56mm on the stock rims. Way more clearance to the suspension parts. I'm running 275/55/20 Goodyear Silent Armor and theres lots of room to the balljoint. They fill the wheelwell and look alot better in my opinion.

Yeah, the E-Locker is the QD (variable but not completely locked, you can get up to 90% lock). I should have made it clearer. Only for V8 models, V6s don't have enough power to spin the wheels anyway

Quadra Drive II with rear ELSD is an option on the 2013 Overland with a V8 allowing you to buy with 20 inch wheels and QD/rear ELSD. Quadra-Drive II ($695 MSRP) ($619.00 invoice) per wk2jeeps.com. http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_2013_features.htm

Re: Off Road Package Requirements

Yes, short of occasional restrictions, it was never an issue getting QDII with 20 inch wheels, as QDII is useful in the snow. What has not been available from the factory is the skid plates and tow hooks with 20 inch wheels (although there could have been early exceptions). At one time QDII was standard on the Overland/Summit V8s but the feature has been subject to marketing tweaks.

Re: Off Road Package Requirements

I couldn't get QDII with 20s on my 2012 Overland, Jeep didn't offer it.

Re: Off Road Package Requirements

In 2012 and looks like 2013, Jeep offeres 20 inch wheels and QDII/ELSD standard on the V8 Summit. Late in 2011 QDII was standard on V8 Overlands and Summits, limited availability otherwise (often restricted). Looks like for 2013 you can also option a V8 Overland with the QDII/ELSD. Apparently Jeep marketing wants to push those that simply want QD for snow into buying all those other bells and whistles too

Because the jeep web site may not be up to date, it may be better to stop by a dealer and see if he can build one for you.

I would have to disagree on the power of the V6 for offroading. I have taken mine into some rough places on my family farm that would give my V8 truck problems and the V6 in my Jeep did great even without the LSD. The brake traction control works suprisingly well and this with the stock tires.

Re: Off Road Package Requirements

I was joking about the traction control in a V6 not having to work hard because the V6 doesn't have enough power to spin the wheels anyway.

There is a lot more to a good off road vehicle than the engine. You will get along just fine with the base system. My 2000 GC doesn't have traction control and does just fine even in open AWD mode.

Re: Off Road Package Requirements

Does anyone know of making a wk2 *trail rated* after market? Can QT2 be installed as well as selec terrain easily if only equipped with QT1? Can the dealer install ORA package after the fact?
