Re: Official 2014 photos released!

I think the headlight issue is due to the fact that they are using the ones designed for the chrysler 300. The black filler is because chances are they carried forward their current headlights (look at a side by side pic of the front..same body line going into the inside corner of the lamp housing) and were told by a suit that all of their competition are now offering LED style in the main lamps..Sucks if you ask me because lights are typically designed to carer to the dimensions of the vehicle. if this is the case and i am correct then some people might e unhappy with the range/positioning upon first use.

Re: Official 2014 photos released!

correct. without a doubt they are working with the same housing size, hence the black filler. I am blown away that an automaker today would push something out looking like this.

many speculated that the spy shots were only test mules and that the housing would not have the black filler. Unfortunately, they decided to finish it off with an unfinished and/or an after thought look. crazy

During the development process alot of time is spent on getting the headlight range and positioning correct. They don't just slap headlights from another vehicle in it. You can bet that even though they may look similiar they were designed for this vehicle.

why not at least work within the same housing size rather than use a filler?

IMO, it isn't just a "filler". It contains the headlight washer unit. If you look at the design of the new front, there was no other place to put them that allowed an effective spraying angle.

At least that's what I'm thinking.

Because these fancy headlights help to hide an epic fail in front exterior design.
I bet 2010-2013 design will remain as a golden standard for years to come.

Funny how every single person hating on the new 14's already have an 11-13'.... I sense some jealousy and think you might just be trying to make yourselves feel better about your current Jeep.

Chances are the 14's will outsell any previous year, but lets just say anyone who is going to own a 2011 or newer grand cherokee (including 2014) has a beautiful Jeep

As always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. While I think the interior of my 12 is slick, pictures of the 14 interior look even better... very nice.

No jealousy here, I was actually hoping for a sleeker exterior on the 14... maybe give me reason to trade up down the road on what is already an outstanding vehicle. Don't hate the new exterior, just don't think it looks as good and definately doesn't improve the look of the current model. As others have said, maybe it will look better in person or will grow on me... but for now I say no thanks. Is it just me, or does the new front end look like a big smile?

Good post. I like my 2012 better too.

Edit: Although, I think once I see a black 2014 Overland I'll like it quite a lot.

Your senses are off. Many here regularly swap out our jeeps and are interested in what the refresh had to offer and are somewhat disappointed in the new front-end look.

I'm in that boat and scratching my head wondering what they were thinking especially with the "me-too LED" headlights.. they even stick out of the housing as if a street-mod teenager ran to walmart, pulled the wrong size "omg LED headlights" off the shelf and tried to make them fit.

NOTE: At least the SRT front end saves some face. I was wondering if this refresh could ever grow on me, but the SRT looks like it could be a respectable option.

As said already, I could live with the interior changes but exterior, NO thanks!
