I seem to have hit a nerve with alot of people with my original comment... maybe I should clarify... I myself own a 99 WJ... I am going to be buying a new one. Since I have the choice, I am going to buy a 2014 instead of a 2013. If I had an 11-13, I would probably just keep it, because it is an awesome vehicle as well.

It just seems that anyone without a current WK2 seems to really like the 2014's vs. previous years, while those who own a current WK2 are hating on them.

And when I say hating, I mean hating.... calling the new design an abortion is over the top. If the 2014 is an abortion, then what does that make your 2013? They aren't that damn different.

Most of the people in this thread I haven't seen 1 post from in the 7000+ post 2014 thread. You seem to just come in here and hate on the new design after looking at it for 2 seconds, knowing nothing about the new changes. Its a little pathetic.

Have some RESPECT for the engineers and everyone who has worked on these vehicles daily -- Milous, Scott, Chevy, Marlon deserve a lot better than the comments in this threaad.

If the 2014 is an abortion, your 2011-2013 is severely deformed.

It's also funny that so many are now complaining about "too much chrome" on the Summit.

Maybe I'm blind but IMO, the MY13 Summit doesn't have any less chrome. Not even a little bit less..

Love the new interior and definitely want to drive the new 8 speed. The front hasn't won me over yet. Funny how Marchionne mentioned Ford Mo Co today because that must have been where they got the idea to stick a black piece of plastic under the headlights a la the Ford Escape. The lights not being flush seems odd as well.

After looking at the pictures of the different models on Jeep's website. I can't help but think they redesigned the grill and then decided on the headlights after it was too late. It doesn't look as noticable and "bad" with the lights from the Laredo and Limited models, but it does look a bit off with the Overland and up headlights. I'm starting to adjust, so it doesn't bother me as much as before, but that did have me wondering.

Okay...

I currently have a 2012 V8 4x4 Overland.

And...

I LOVE the Interior. It looks even more refined than the current one (which was widely praised). I do wish that the 8 inch NAV display had a TILT option. Being unable to adjust it means there will be LOTS of times when it is almost useless due to sunlight glare (just like my current screen is). :(

Now... about that Exterior...

Whiskey
Tango
Foxtrot?!? Over.

I can see that they made the front end look more like the SRT8 one (which is a GOOD thing IMHO). I'm not crazy about the front end but it will probably grow on me. I remember how much WK & WJ owners cried and blasted the WK2 when it was first announced.

I really like the rear end of the LIMITED.

That Overland & Summit rear end made me throw up in my mouth a little bit. :( The squared off exhausts and overloading of chrome reminds me of an MDX; which is NOT a good thing.

Overall I'll wait until I see one in person before making a final decision. But right now, I think the PLUSES outweigh the MINUSES... barely.

The 11-13 was just right. This is just ME but I wish exterior was the same but with LEDs in SAME SHAPE lights on the 11-13s. The new wheels, GC badging on doors, no chrome strip on back = BETTER on 14s. The 2014 interior is better. All in all, an upgrade to a 2014 seems worth it. My 2 cents. Right now I am thinking maybe Laredo X optioned just like my 2012 Laredo X with ORA 1, power liftgate etc but in Brilliant black and a lighter interior.

To be honest I dont know what I was expecting, I guess it wasnt what the final product was. I'm not saying I hate the design as I do think the official photos bring it into a better light than what the spy pics did. I think this design works better for the SRT8 as it has a more sporty design than aggressive look to it.

Don't let it get to you James. Everyone is going to have their opinion on it. Sometimes, its a Love it or Hate it thing.

Before the pictures yesterday, I liked so far what I saw. Then the pictures hit and I wasn't so sure anymore, really doubting if I should go get a 13. Looking at the pictures more, seeing the revealing, watching videos of it...I'm back to really liking it again.

Actually I think I'm the one that called it an abortion.... So I'll own up and apologize for that harsh of language, I hope you don't take it personally.

My comment was aimed specifically at the new SRT8 front end. FOR ME.... they removed the best part of the front end and haphazardly stuck on new parts with little or no continuity. Those headlights would be fricken awesome if they didn't have a kitkat gap worth dead space for the washers. Why would you do that instead of what was done in the past as pictured below. Also that smiling grill DOES NOT say mean, pissed, sinister or aggressive.

I'm not hating on the brand just this release... Its no different than the WK1 as I hated those too. I'm not going to abandon the brand but instead possibly try to low ball on an Alpine.
Just imagine how fricking wicked the below alpine would look if it had those headlights and form fitting bumper NOT cartoon grill. I would have had a down payment in on one already.

I guess I was hoping for something intimidating and brutal.....maybe similar to this

I've said some terrible things based on those spy shots.... actually, they didn't give the Grand any justice. However, when I looked at the photos on Flicker, I thought wow, the SRT now looks more like the wish list that customers had before the 2012 was released.

That says a lot about these forums and that objective feedback is taken seriously with the engineers - kudos go out to these guys.

Anyway... the SRT is awesome, the Limited represents well... The Summit is too bling for my tastes. It looks like it has those old crappy chrome wheels from the 2012 SRT.

when you have professional reviews commenting on the out of place black plastic filler and that it now has a "non jeep look with a softer feminine front-end", I think it pretty much sums up why we current owners were let down and frankly disappointed. I feel the SRT in a darker color is hot, but the other models are not able to pull off the mixed front-end as well.

BTW, there are a ton of current wk2 owners sitting on a 3yr lease that's about to end.

Well put.

The reality is, they'd have done better by just adding the 8.4" screen and (maybe) the 8 speed transmission.

I do agree a lot of members were lowing the amazingness of the '14s over the top before the reveal, and I think a lot of the negativity towards it is because it doesn't at all live up to the hype. One only needs to look at any thread discussing purchasing to see the hordes coming out to say "OMG YO WAIT FOR THE 14s!!!!1!" And now the 14s have been reealed, and it's a huge let down, we all know it is, but some people just don't want to accept it.

I wanted to be blown away by the '14. I wanted it to be so amazing I had to run out and trade up into one. But it's not - it's a minimal increase in fuel economy and a major decrease in desirability.

Just goes to show you just how good a job Jeep did on the original WK2.

The more I look at it the more I realize its the headlights that are out of place. The new bumper would probably get the nod if it was color matched and if it filled in the gap.

I honestly like the back of the 13's better as it doesn't "pop" as much and looks bland. Maybe it simply needed to retain the texture instead of being smoothed out.

I wonder what the response would have been if they hadn't over sold the refresh and simply improved the interior, added the 8 speed and refined the traction control tuning. Probably a standing ovation from just about everyone.

WHY are you two assuming a few peoples opinions on JeepGarage and more importantly...YOURSELVES speaks for EVERYONE here and the general public. Your opinions are just that YOUR opinions. We get it...you dont like it...move on and talk about your 11-13...for gods sake please! Ive seen basically the same posts from a few of you the entire day. BUT...here at the actual show...the NAIAS show for 2013...the 14' GC is a HUGE....off the charts, smash hit! I overheard a comment from CNN that" Jeep will not be able to build enough of these to suit the public demand" I have heard that all day!
Do you guys REALLY think the current model would continue to sell IF it looked the same but added the 8 speed? ChryCo is the experts and they didnt. Sergio made the comment today that ChryCo products will BE cutting edge and class leading at all times. So revamps like this will be common place at ChryCo under Sergio. No more 3-4 years between refreshes...that came straight from Sergio! Jeep COULD NOT continue underits OLD ways and thats what some people here want. Jeep would be dead with some people here making design choices......

Please reserve your comments until you see it in person! It is a stunning vehicle in person!

Not bad -- both the Photoshop job and the way the grille looks. It would be interesting to see how it looked without the smiley lines partially edited out.

I actually like the new grille as-is on the lower trims and darker colors, but that would make for an interesting option.

Wonder if MOPAR would make that design available? If not, perhaps someone else.

my 2 cents (not that anyone cares).. I've had my Overland since Aug 2010 and do not plan to trade up. Why? Because the changes aren't significant enough for me and I still rather love my 2011. That being said, I'd take a 2014 over my 2011 if I had to choose. :)

#154 ·
I'm keeping my 2012. I was walking out to it after work today, and realized it's a great vehicle and why would I even think of trading it. I like the new Overland, but it would take Black Clear Coat exterior, and Carbon Fiber interior on a special edition Overland Midnight (or Overland Black Vapor or something cool, basically like an S-Limited but on the 2014 Overland so as to get the painted lower fascias and the leather dash) for me to want the new one.

Glad guys you liked my little unprofessional work
Here is my second (and final) attempt, this time it's Overland:

All in all I think this could be the most bad-ass looking SUV on the road but Chrysler decided to go the other way and to do a more universal design. I think it's OK and we must respect their decision. For us it's just a matter of preference. For auto manufacturer it's one of the critical things that can harm company if done wrong.

Good work. That makes me realize though that with all of the changes that Jeep made to the front, end the new grille works best and looks best, in my opinion. The old grille is classic but kind of plain looking with the other changes. The new grille along with new headlights and new lower front fascia is interesting and all flows together the way I view it.

#159 ·
I can't believe you guys are photoshoping the new front end. Don't change your day job. The Jeep designers did an awesome job on the redesign.

LOL. Let me be the first one to ask here. ;)

Can a 2011-2013 front bumper fit a 2014+ WK2? LOL. :D

I post on a few Lexus forums as well, since I also have a Lexus. They are going through this right now with the new IS which just came out. I thought you all would appreciate what I posted on that forum about a week and a half ago, in a thread exactly like this one about the new IS:

I have been around Lexus forums a long time, not as long as Blueprint and the crew obviously, but the story is always the same.

1. New model is coming out, starting 2+ years out people post pages upon pages of all the things they hope it will be, want it to be, etc. The vast majority of those things are completely unrealistic.
2. Pictures get leaked, invariably right before the big reveal.
3. Everybody freaks out, "OMG, its so hideous, Lexus has shot themselves in the foot with this one, I would never trade my 1991 ES250 in on that thing", "thank God we have our *insert previous generation of aforementioned model here*, we better keep them forever because Lexus will never build another car that we want to drive". "My car is the epitome of everything Lexus could have designed, if they would just make the new car look more like my car, it'd be hot."
4. People do all kinds of photoshops to make the car look like what they wished it looked like. Most look horrible...some look surprisingly good.
5. People see the car in person...and it looks better than in pictures. The honest folks will post this. Bedlam ensues, people get banned, moderators turn on moderators.
6. The model comes out and...people buy it. It sells better than the previous model!
7. A new subforum pops up, full of happy next generation owners and the community prospers.

And it all happens again...and again...and again. Don't believe me? Read the thread in every subforum about every new version of a model that comes out.
Its absolutely true. 10+ years of posting on auto forums, and this happens EVERY time, in exactly the same way.

The question is, is there a thread like this on the 2011 wk2? I wouldn't mind reading it to see people's opinions of that when it first came out

When the WK2 first came out I was very excited about the styling of the new generation GC. So I bought an '12. I did and still do have my gripes about the instument cluster but other than that I have been very happy with it. Then when I see the WK2+ I can honestly say that I am dissapointed with the exterior appearance. On the other hand, the interior changes look amazing. I was really looking forward to the CRD and maybe trading mine in someday. But everytime I look at the pictures I'm thinking to myself "can I really deal with that front end,,,, but I really want that CRD and new interior". Then I hear there's no flipper glass. That's deal killer there. I can't tell you how handy that is when launching or moving my Sea-Doo's around. Anyways, don't beat me up too hard. Were all JGC fanatatics here.
