Question Oil Change Interval?

I own a 2014 Overland with the 3.6L V6. I'm trying to decide when to get my next oil change.

Some data:
Current mileage: 9072 miles
Oil life: 51%
Miles since last reset: 3834 miles

Sticker in the window says to get it changed at 9405 miles. I bought the car in June, used with about 8000 miles on it, so I don't know much about the previous owner's maintenance.

I have a road trip coming up that is about 550 miles one way, and I'll be staying in that city for 10 days and then returning (so another 550 mile trip). Any suggestions as to when I should get the oil changed? Prior to the trip, while I'm in that city, or after I get back?

Thanks!

Re: Oil Change Interval?

When the minder gets to 10%, 10,000 miles from last oil change, or 1 year, whatever comes first.

Re: Oil Change Interval?

I like the sound of that.

Any issues as far as needing an oil change more often as it is a new car?

Doesn't need it more frequently but you may just want to check the oil level and make sure it is not low since the jeep is new to you and you don't know the history and you got a long trip coming up. Its fine im sure just something id do if it were me.

Since you bought the car used and do not know the oil history, I would change it before leaving. That way you know what oil is in it.

But I'm being picky about the oil I use in my car as I want it to last 10+ years. In my case I am using Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic 5W-20 and will be using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Synthetic 5W-20 (Pennzoil re-formulated their Ultra oil) on my next oil change.

As for oil life, I'm changing mine every 7,500 miles. Jeep recommends changing it based on the Oil life calculator, 10,000 miles or every 12 months, whichever comes first.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum here also every 6000-7000. Amazon Prime will drop Three 5 quart jugs of it on your front porch for $90.

FYI - you don't need to be a "Prime" member to get that price, or free shipping from Amazon. Just order it a week before you need it.

agree im just hooked on amazons free 2 day shipping and half the time the stuff comes in one day. Especially when its just an added bonus of having their streaming video service that I would have bought anyway for 8 bucks a month.

I would, but only because you don't know the history.

I personally would never get an oil change while in the middle of a trip.
I'd either do it myself or take it to a dealer who is aware I own a baseball bat.

If you want to go full synth or synth blend, ask your service rep about MOPAR coupon offers unless you do the change yourself.
