Check the dealer prices if they have express lane service.
Locally, the dealer price for oil + filter is cheaper or same price as the Jiffy/Midas/Whomever places.

You can also buy pre-paid changes from most dealers, including full synth, where the discount is modest, but enough to buy an extra donut for the service writer.

Your area's dealers don't do free tire rotation in the express lane?

What stinks is that the QL will raise the vehicle, but then if you jack stand it and try to "lower" it to pull the wheels off the ground like a Citroen, it refuses to do so.

Yea, QL isn't really for tire changing things...but I'll reiterate that the jack stands are really important for anyone new to this stuff whether using QL to raise things up or a jack. Being crushed to death if the vehicle drops is a very bad thing...

Re: Oil Change: Midas vs. Dealership!

I buy my own oil, Pennzoil Ultra, and then have the dealer do the oil change and replace the filter.

Prior to that, I take a sample and send it off to Blackstone Labs for analysis. It's pretty cool being able to see the metal content change as the engine gets broken in.

I use Ultra also how has the blackstone result been on that? I change twice a year which works out to about a 6000 mile change. A little over kill i know but ultra from amazon is fairly cheap for what it is.

Yes I slide a jack stand under one side just in case.

When I rust proofed, I put in tire jack mode and used two stand a pulled the wheels.

Yes, the Blackstone reports have been using Ultra after the first oil change. Obviously the first oil to come out was the factory oil. I did switch recently to the Ultra Platinum as Pennzoil switched up their product line. I also buy mine from Amazon. I used to get it at the local Walmart for a similar price but they haven't had the Ultra in stock since the product change.

I've been changing my oil twice a year which works out to about 8500 miles per change. Blackstone reports that I should have no problems going to 10,000 miles given the amount of additives left.
