Oil change schedule

Do you guys follow Jeeps calculated oil change schedule or do it early. Mine seems to be following 1 year or 10k schedule.

I always changed my oil at 5-7k and no longer than 6 months. Also using synthetic. On that car I have 214k miles and engine is going strong.

Is not following jeeps recomendation (1year/10k) and changing oil early is throwing $$$ away?

I've been doing it every 8k miles, my OM recommendation. I drive 32k/ year so the time issue is irrelevant. My first few changes were "free" at the dealer so I assume they used non-synthetic. Since then I use Mobil One. The old oil is fairly clean when it drains out, so that's an indication that I don't need to change it more often.

Jeep shows 46% to go on the oil. This is the first car that I own that has this type of indicator.

Last oil change was in july about 6k ago. Normally I would probably wait until early March to change oil but I have a trip coming up at the end of Jan. With that trip I should probably be at 8-9k at the beginning of March.

Just don't like changing oil mid winter. In my old car with 6 month intervals I would change oil before winter and again before summer.

100% manufacturer schedule, which for my MY12 is 8K miles unless, for some reason, the vehicle requests it sooner. That has not happened in 45K miles...and the next change is due at 48K.

I've got six free oil changes from the dealer. I went for the first one and they marked the next was due in 3k miles. I'm at the 3k and oil change indicator says I have 80% left. Curious why they would want me to come every 3k when they are doing it for free? Any insight on this one? Something I'm missing?

They are trying to train you to do it at 3K.
They can also get away with cheaper oil if they change it that frequent.

I pass on my free oil changes. I also have the first few changes analyzed.

Unless you're doing some extremely hard traveling, change it by the manufacturer's recommendations, not the dealer's. The later wants your money...and the sooner they help you use up your freebies, the sooner they can reach back into your pockets. Your 2014 oil change interval is every 10,000 miles or 12 months or when the onboard computer tells you it needs done. Not 3,000 miles. That wastes oil and wastes money.

I haven't used Blackstone yet but I did get their test kit mailed to me. It's in the garage, ready for my next (the 2nd) change. They send it to you free of charge, and you pay when you send your sample in.

Serious question. I have never had oil analysed and don't know anyone who has.

What changes has anyone here done to their vehicles based on an oil analysis? I'm not really interested in what could be, or what somebody read about. I would like to hear about actual experience.

Thanks.

Mostly confirmation that I could safely run 7500 mile interval with PLENTY of buffer in case I forget or can't get around to it.

Also confirming the brand oil I'm using is up to snuff and the Engine is breaking in normally.

The internal change indicator is strictly based on mileage though, right?
No, it takes in consideration temperature/length of trips etc.

Basically if you don't run it long enough, frequently it won't burn off moisture that ends up in the oil from condensation.

So it will increase "usage" faster per mile if you make lots of short trips.
