Old Skool, or Just Cool?

So now I know what the WK guys felt like when the 2011 WK2 first hit the street. Kinda like an old, worn out, muddy, should-be-discarded-but-still-holding-on – door mat. Since the ‘14’s came out, the old skool first-generation WK2 11-13's are so, well, uh, yesterday. What’s the saying? Those that resist progress are really gonna hate obsolescence. Hell, we’re already relics.

Get outta the way old man. Just GTFO. You’re not interesting, fugly, and slow. See ya. Buh bye. Us ‘14’s got new looks, new gizmos, new dashboard, new tranny, new paddle shifters, folding mirrors, new wheelsets, capless fuel fillers. Blah, blah, blah. We got flair. This isn’t just a refresh MY, we’re like the freakin Fresh Prince of BelAir. We got all the new sheit. All the bugs are worked out. We got at least a tenth of a second on your old junk. Thanks for all the ground-breaking pioneering Old Skool, but now you’re just a dead soldier from Custer’s army.

Sheesh.<O</O

Yea, well there’s another side to this story, pal. Talk about old since I’m a resident expert on the subject. It’s getting pretty boring seeing all these recent angst-filled threads waiting for long-lost new vehicle orders, or sweating it out over the Pentastar vs. Hemi debate for the umpteenth time, or splitting hairs and counting pennies over the fuel economy of the new diesel, or endless debates over which shade-of-grey to select, or queries about whether the new rounded tailgate lamps make one’s arse look too fat. Then there’s the millionth photo of yet another ’14 taken in front of a clapped-out, plastic-veneered garage, or in a Walmart parking lot, with a smudgy cell phone, in bad light, with your kid’s sad broken toys and cheap tools littering the background, and your Mom’s Chrysler Lebaron parked in the garage while your ’14 gets relegated to the street. Lastly, all this new stuff is, well, gawd-forbid, can’t bear to think about it, hardly can stomach it, don’t say it - - fully stock. OMG!<O</O

The Horror.

And another thing. You 14’s took all our WK2 first-gen mods and ideas from Jeep Garage, and have the gall to think they are somehow new. Dechromed grill and tailgate strip – check. Body colored trim and running boards – check. No body side molding in exchange for the SRT8 lettering – check. Partially murdered Alpine/Vapor/Pre-Customized Packaged Gobbledygook – check. We shoulda copyrighted this stuff. <O</O

Oh, and now that KIA has LED DRL’s and halos, we absolutely gotta slap on some of those bad boys. Heck, we can even steal Chryco headlamp stock from the 300’s and instead of a proper grill facia, lay in some unfinished black-plastic covers that reportedly are headlight washer covers and charge more money for the effort. Same for the stubby, awkward t-shifter – may as well take it from the 300’s rental fleet shelves. Then, we gotta do a combo winged grill, lone-ranger masked, smiley face front end to appeal to the soccer mom crowd.<O</O

Whatever. I’m sooooo over it.

To settle the score, I'm just gonna say it and throw the gauntlet. Time for a throw down, drag race, all out comparison, maybe a poll. We need to do something about this conundrum.

So which is it? Which is best? First gen WK2 or New Kid 14's? Well I got the answer for you right here:

<O</O

I hope you don't work at the post office.

This might help...

On your "photoshopped" '14, is that Mineral Grey?

Re: Old Skool, or Just Cool?

The authors described almost exactly word for word this condition in the 4th edition DSM.

Look at this way moose. The older you get the more aftermarket support you will have.
