I thought the band was going to be for major highways only...so I guess they really want to make sure no one gets caught stranded...

That is what they said at first now they changed it. LI is not a fun place if you like to go off-road or apparently drive in heavy snow. I guess it's the safe thing to do, but couldn't they just say only 4-wheel drive or only Jeeps will be allowed.

Yeah I can see that on CNN, up to $300 fines for any drivers found on ANY roads in your area, wow, they are taking this seriously... Keep us posted on pre 11pm road conditions! And They would have to catch ya before you get a fine...

Another issue that tends to negatively affect Jeep progress is abandoned vehicles, rookies with bald/bad tires...
Or, those big steel gates they put across highways in some states.

Snow mode helps, particularly in the deeper stuff when it is wet and would otherwise drag heavily on the underside of your vehicle.

Just watch out for Volvos...

Well over 36 inches. Enough that the snow will blow up and over the front of the vehicle. A lot depends on the snow/water ratio though, we usually get reasonably dry snow on around here because it is a tad near zero or worse, and that is far easier to just plow thru. Wet snow can be a bugger, as if you are using the bottom of the thing as a snowplow, and you get stopped for any reason, you might have to go to OR-2 to get moving again...

Chains, and a really big engine. Works until you high center enough the wheels come off the pavement.
