Re: Omg. Bizzzzzzzard

The most they'll do around here in a bad storm is say, "Travel is not recommended." I don't ever recall an outright state (or even a city) travel ban, much less handing out citations for it if you get caught driving in it.

I suppose that since the effected areas for this storm are large metro areas they decided to play it safe and err on the side of caution. I can't blame them for that.

Re: Omg. Bizzzzzzzard

The reason for the ban around NY anyway has a lot to do with the storm a few years ago. On Long Island anyway we got like 28" and there were cars stranded everywhere. I had a 2011 GC at the time and the roads looked like a scene out of Walking Dead. Cars were abandoned in the middle of major hwys, streets and they couldn't be plowed effectively so this time they weren't taking any chances. The 2013 storm dumped so much snow so quick that people went to work in their 2 wheel drive cars thinking they'll make it home before it gets bad and they were wrong.

This is what it looked like in 2013 without the ban:

LOL... I totally understand. That in of itself is a hell of a mess to clear.

Omg. Bizzzzzzzard

We got a good blast from the storm here in New Brunswick. I had to make a 200km round trip this morning and the storm hit hard just before the return trip. Visibility was next to nothing. Drifts all over the highway. I left the highway and took a secondary road that snow covered. Jeep handled awesomely. Snow was coming up over the hood and had some 4 wheel rooster tail action goin on. We have some more snow expected over night so we'll see what we end up with in the end. The wind is still pretty high.

BORINGGGGG I've got a snow blower so bring it on! ...although it has to wait a week. The Jeep is in repair for a very minor collision and I'm stuck with a Toyota Corolla for the week.

I've got one too but unless it's really deep I usually shovel it for the exercise.

My father, to this day, says the snowblower he bought like 15 years ago is his best investment. 5 speeds forward, 2 reverse and I think 10 hp..

Seriously?
The only idiots like that here in MN are the ones with bald tires. Even most of the people with 2wd get around up here, though it's usually because the 4wd vehicles have already made tracks through the snow.

I wish we could get a storm like that here in MN this year. I've only had my snowblower out twice and that was because I didn't feel like taking the time to shovel.

I want to play with my new Goodyear Wranglers!!!

LOL... well, there's still a lot of winter left so you may get your wish. Then I'll know who to swear at and blame for it.

Re: Omg. Bizzzzzzzard

We got a good amount of snow here in the Boston area. My Jeep was buried in a snowbank in the apartment parking lot. I cleaned off the windows and backed it out to a clear spot to get all of the snow off. Drove almost like it was on dry pavement... snow, what snow? (grin)

It's kinda fun watching my neighbors with their 2-wheel drive cars having to shovel them out and needing a push to get them moving... I help, of course, but you get that satisfied feeling when your Jeep can handle just about anything... (grin)

It's always fun going for a ride during a good snow storm. I went out last year when we had a large snowfall to go to Dunkin Donuts. The only vehicles on the road were the large snow plows and trucks with plow attachments. It was nice not having to deal with traffic, plus you get to play a bit, which refreshes your winter driving skills.
