Maryland has their beltway issues but they do a far better job than VA with anything involving asphalt and that's coming from a VA person.

well that's true also, and if the police would enforce the proper use of the left lane that would help and maybe a few signs. Half of the people don't even understand the left lane use let alone try obey it.

Thats very true, timing plays a big role. But its those often times when a stupid accident happens that blocks off lanes, or surprise construction happens. lol!

I totally agree, I despise 66. I had to go to Vienna last Friday, and it was well past 8am and i was stuck in volume traffic going about 30 mph, I was like, what time do you people need to be at work? Its almost 9am?! lol!

I have lived in the area sort of for about 10 years now, I lived in culpeper for about 7 years then moved near Manassas, about 3 years ago. Before I moved up here, I was born and raised in the Hampton Roads area, (Norfolk, VA to be exact). When I was a child traveling thru the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT) wasn't so bad, back then. But these days, I swear, its terrible.

When I go home to visit, I travel to get there or leave there very early in the morning or late at night, just to avoid the traffic crossing the bridge tunnel, and that stretch of I-64 between the bridge-tunnel and I-295, that is also a two lane hell. My biggest road rage pet peeve these days are the left-lane slow driving idiots, who will not move out of the way. It drives me nuts! lol!

The thing that kills me is how the "rush" hours have extended from years ago. for 66 morning rush is 6am-10:30am afternoon is pretty much 2pm - 8pm. and then count on some type of construction from 10:30am -2:00pm clogging things so you are screwed no matter what.

Yes, I agree. Rush hour times are very lengthy. I'm so glad, I only live 6 miles from work, and I don't have to use any interstates, lol. But when I do have to use any of the NoVA interstates, I get pretty anxious and prayerful, lol.

Apparently I'm just acclimated to DC haha. I take both 95 and 495 to get to work in McLean. Admittedly, I use the HOT lanes, but that's only in the last couple years.

I don't even flinch out on the roads anymore, even on my motorcycle.

My only concern driving in the snow is dealing with other people. I haven't taken a snow day in years though, even when we had the blizzard earlier this year, I was still at work at 7:30a Monday morning Took a little longer than normal to get in, but that's it. My only glitch in the snow was a few years ago some douche cut me off on the ramp from 495 to 123 and lost control of his car in 10" of snow. He bounced around and I had a choice to either ram him or bury the GC in the snowbank on the shoulder created by the plows...I buried the front end up to the back of the front wheels in the snow. Turned off the TC and she backed right out.

Hopefully your GC was too scathed, lol. There are soo many idiot drivers in our area, its ridiculous. I've taken the 95 HOV once, and that was awesome, saved a lot time. I also use the 495 hot lanes, and thats awesome too, but sometimes its a ripoff, when traffic isn't so bad. I just use the regular lanes so I don't pay money out to those people, lol.

The Jeep didn't have a scratch on it, I was impressed haha. I leave work at 4pm - 495 is a nightmare at Tysons going past 50 and 95 is just as bad from Springfield past the Occoquan. I agree, the tolls can be obnoxious, but I also can't deny it saves me an hour or more each way too.
