Opinions needed, Is the advanced technology worth the cost?

I am getting into some final negotiating on a 2014 Overland V8 and I am torn on whether to go with the Advanced technology. I know what it includes but I would appreciate any feedback from people who went with and without the AT. as wellas some user opinions.
I should note that this vehicle will be a 36 mos lease. Adding the tech package will represent aprox $50 or so additional dollars a month to the payment. i do not typicaly drive long distances outside the sporatic road trip or weekend trip. I am torn as to add the cost or just skip this package. Thanks to anyone who can give their $ 0.2

Re: Opinions needed, Is the advanced technology worth the cost?

I usually put a monetary price on almost everything and have an opinion on most things.

As such, 50 dollars per month cost for the added safety when driving, via blind spot monitoring, collision prevention or via sensor for reverse driving in the parking lot is well worth it depending on who else drives the car. For me alone, I would like that price to be 20. For my wife (especially when contemplating children) that 50 dollars is inexpensive.

I bought the car, so for me, the added cost is spread over 60 months. But to me, anything safety enhancing is always worth the premium. I star from that premise then choose to argue the negatives, rather then assuming it's not worth the money and have someone try to convince me otherwise.

Re: Opinions needed, Is the advanced technology worth the cost?

Subaru Outback has something called Eyesight which is a camera version of ACC but without blind spot protection. After 14 months of use it is worth every cent and I will not order any future vehicle without it. It isn't just for distance driving but all forms of driving especially rural roads where someone doing 2 mph pulls out in front of you. I have had my system max brake about 3 times when it thought it was a pending crash.
Peace of mind is priceless...

For me number 1 reason for ordering the JGC is the diesel engine, number two is the Adaptive Cruise Control package...

Re: Opinions needed, Is the advanced technology worth the cost?

Asking this question on a forum probably won't be a lot of help making your decision. Those who didn't buy it don't think it's worth it, those that bought it think it's worth it.

I'm not averse to safety features but felt this was over priced for 'my perceived' benefit. On the other hand, I spent an extra $1,500 on a table saw because of what I perceive as an outstanding safety device.

Good luck with your decision.

Speaking only for myself, I love the Advanced Technology Package. I may a bit biased because my previous vehicle had a horrible blind spot. No matter how I set the mirrors or twisted my neck there was a space that I could not see.
When I saw that the 2014 offered blind spot monitoring it was on my must have list. I still view it as my responsibility to insure that it is safe to change lanes and the GC does not have the same issue as my previous vehicle but I enjoy having the electronic backup.
We do a bit of interstate traveling, mostly back and forth to the boat. The adaptive cruise control is nice on these trips. A few weeks ago I was cruising along when some idiot remembered that he needed to get off at the next exit, changing lanes so close to my front bumper I thought we were going to trade paint. The electronics took over and immediately slowed the car. In this case I would have braked in time (barely) on my own but if I had been checking the rear view mirror at the exact time he decided to change lanes it might have been a different story.
From my perspective the Advanced Technology Package is well worth the money but that decision will vary from individual to individual based on their budget, and driving environment. You indicated that you are leasing for 36 months and that adding the package will result in a $50 /month increase in your lease payment. If I remember correctly the package added around $1900 to the list price. At $50 per month that comes to $1800 over 36 months. It sounds as if your dealer is trying to make you pay for the entire cost of the option during the lease. We purchased our Jeep so I am not an expert on leasing but I would think it should be much less. I am sure some of the members who leased their GC can shed more light on this subject.
Whatever decision you make I hope that you enjoy your new Jeep as much as we have enjoyed ours.

It is especially good to have this option if you're a distracted driver.

I would have got it, if I was not force to get sunroof.

If you already have the sunroof or want one, it's a no brainer to get it.

Re: Opinions needed, Is the advanced technology worth the cost?

I was also split on this decision a couple weeks ago when I was deciding between the Overland with or without the tech package. I was wondering if was worth the additional cost but I decided just to go for it so I wouldn't regret not having it later. I'm in my second week of having it now and I can say hands down it was a very good decision. Just this morning I was shuffling around for something on the way to work and wasn't paying enough attention. The GC yelled at me all of a sudden with a loud sound and looked up and someone in front of my was slamming on the brakes so my GC automatically started applying the brakes.

One thing it also does that I didn't know it did was that it uses the blind spot monitors to also detect cars coming from your left and right when backing up. Like this and the incident this morning, I most likely would have avoided a collision but it gives me a greater peace of mind and overall it just makes me feel safer. Plus, anything that helps the GC from getting beaten up is worth the money in my opinion. Having the package even lowered my insurance cost (nothing drastic--it was like $25 per 6 months) over the cost of the GC without the package.

I've experimented with the ACC but I haven't come to trust it yet it in heavy traffic. I drive 25 miles each way from work everyday in decently heavy traffic but I don't trust it to not brake to heavily just yet. I just don't want it to brake too much and have someone rear end me because of it. I'm slowly starting to trust it more and more though. On the highway with moderate or less traffic though it is really nice to have.

So overall, I think it's worth it but to each their own. I feel like I'm a pretty good driver (never had an accident or speeding ticket) but I feel safer knowing that I have the package. I just didn't realize it would be this useful. However, it is spoiling me a bit...

Re: Opinions needed, Is the advanced technology worth the cost?

I bought it since I tend to be the driver in any long distance commute and had to have the adaptive cruise. This thing has made those long drives so much easier since I don't have to worry about idiots pulling into the fast lane going slower than me and having to adjust the speed. Since this is our family car too, I wanted my wife to have the added protection with the FCW since she could easily look away to give our newborn her pacifier and have the car slam the brakes ahead. I can't put a price on safety, but the price for this option was well worth it IMO.

Also if you are getting old enough that turning your neck a distance on a really cold morning leads to painful warnings that this may not be a good idea.

One consideration is to check with your insurance company and tell them what it includes. Good ones can check from your VIN, and mine is giving me a discount for that package just based on my VIN.

$50 a month seems a bit high for the option. I'd pound on the sales manager's ear a bit, as it is discountable.

I didn't choose the option, but I could wait for weeks or take an Overland with it in a couple business days.

I must admit it has really really grown on me and I wouldn't pick up a new vehicle without it even though I originally didn't want it. In My Non Humble Opinion, the sensors are a tad too cautious, but since I try to shock at least two braincells awake before driving, it is better to have the warning that the local bieber is heading down the street as you try to back out than not.

I wish the ACC had a slightly longer follow option than it does, but I tend to use it mainly when bored.

Re: Opinions needed, Is the advanced technology worth the cost?

LuxII was mandatory for us mainly due to the blind spot detection. It's unfortunate that Jeep lumps that in with a bunch of high priced goodies, considering our lowly Ford Fusion from 2010 is what got us hooked on it. The ventilated seats and HID headlights are nice bonuses.
