Opinions Please... 2017 GC or wait for 2018

Hello everyone, I wanted to solicit some opinions from my fellow members. I was all set to order a 2017 GC Summit with the HEMI V8 as soon as I sold my current vehicle. Well I sold it this past weekend and now am on the fence about to purchase a 2017 that is optioned exactly as I would order it or place an order in June for a 2018 model.

The only data I have right now is that the infotainment system will be upgraded to the new 8.4 Uconnect system in the 2018 (adding CarPlay) and a brighter screen.

Does anybody else here have any inside info on any other changes to the 2018 GC?

One more data point is that I want the special leather package on my vehicle. I love the current color combo of the Indgio / Sky Signature package. What do you think the probability is that they will discontinue this option or change the color combos?

One last question. If orders are taken in June, production starts in July is it fair to expect delivery to California mid to late August?

Any insight or opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I'm in a very similar boat as you are. As far as I can tell or have heard, the my18 isn't going to be too much different (if at all) from the my17. Confirmed for the updated uconnect but that's about it. I highly doubt they would remove the upgraded leather package as an option.

I'm going to wait for my18. Its right around the corner and it would drive me nuts to buy a brand new expensive vehicle only for the new model to come out a couple months later. I vote wait, order what you want, and enjoy it

^^^^^^^

Ditto. I have been thinking about a '17 but will hold off for an '18 as the '18 won't be too much different so shouldn't be any production issues for early '18 orders and the new radio has been out in other vehicles and so is tested too. There is no reason to not wait for an '18 unless you need the GC earlier. If you can wait 5-6 months probably worth waiting for.

One the flip side though the '18's will most certainly have a higher price tag....

^^^^^^^ Higher price tag is what makes me lean toward the 17, i also lease and gave up on CarPlay so I rather have a stable old version of UConnect then a buggy new version.

I went with the 17 because I couldn't care less about CarPlay. Now if it was Android Auto, that would have been different.

Do you think the new version will be "buggy". I haven't seen too much on it other then good things - but I haven't researched it too much.

Hard to say, I don't want to take the gamble. I already feel I am taking a gamble with the Jeep to begin with and I don't want to deal with crappy uconnect which controls 70% of the cars behavior.
Having said that I think CarPlay is a great idea but it needs more support for 3rd party apps like waze and others.

CarPlay is both systems not just one, it detects whatever device you plug into it.

CarPlay is an Apple specification. Android Auto is a Google specification. They do similar things, but are different software-wise. Most systems that offer these support both specifications, however.

Thanks Jim, that's where I was heading but didn't want to confuse with my response as units offer both, I guess I did.

The new 8.4 units are already deployed in a number of other FCA vehicles. No reason to think they won't have at least some of the bugs worked out by the time they get into our '18 GCs. I'm waiting.

It is Android Auto (in addition to Carplay). Along with a new higher resolution screen and probably some other bells and whistsles.
