ORAII vs. QDII+Lim Slip Diff

I've been looking high and low for a 2015 Overland with Hemi and ORAII. I won't be doing any serious offroading but do find myself on rough dirt roads/trails from time to time. I would say mild offroading only. (I currently drive a Chevy Avalanche Z71 that handles everything I've ever needed.)

Very few vehicles on lots in the DFW area with ORAII. I've been looking now several months for the color/option combination I'm looking for. Had resigned myself to ordering a 2016 (whenever that is possible).

However, I did find a 2015 Overland Hemi with the color/options I want with QDII and the Limited Slip Differential. I'm thinking I can get a pretty good deal on a 2015.

So, it seems to me that I could always have the dealer add the skid plates if I needed them. I don't think 20" wheels are an issue for me. I can always add all-terrain tires.

Am I right the QDII and the differential are the key parts of ORAII that can't easily be added later??

Both systems use the QTII transfer case. All QDII adds is the rear ELSD and 18 instead of 20 inch wheels. Skid plates can always be added later if needed.

You are correct that the ELSD cannot be added after the fact. The skids, tow hooks and alternate shoes can be added later.

Also if you decided to get a 2016 the ORAII will have off road tires instead of the highway tires they currently put with ORAII. jeep made some poor tire choices on the grand cherokee for the 20s and 18s which they are correcting in 2016. Lots of balance issues especially on the 20s glad they are moving to make this right on the 2016s.

Yep - the new tires and shifter were my reasons for waiting for '16. However, the dates have slipped and if I can get a good enough deal on a '15.....
