Order 2015 or wait for 2016?

So I am ready to pull the trigger on a new JGC. I've searched all over the country but the combination of options I want doesn't seem to exist on anyone's lot so I will be ordering.
I keep my vehicles for 6-8 years and 100k miles +/- which makes the model year depreciation less of an issue.
I'm looking at an Overland with OFAII, Tech Package, HK Audio, Blk Interior. Red is first choice color, Black second.
I know the current Red is going away with a replacement later which means an early 2016 order would likely be Black.
I'm not excited about the new engine start/stop feature but some of the other upgrades seem like small but nice enhancements.
A dealer indicated that current 2015 orders are coming in quickly - early 2016 could take a while I'm guessing.
Any opinions or advice on whether to order a 2015 now or wait for the 2016?

The soonest you would get a MY16 order would be January, most likely, since production doesn't start until late November/early December. And that assumes you are right there to order when the MY16 order banks open. So if the red is important to you and the incremental feature changes with MY16 aren't as important, ordering a MY15 is going to get you in your vehicle faster.

Jim, quick question for you; a coworker of mine recommended me going on this site and finding the "Group Buy" for 2016 in order to get a good percentage off the invoice price. I know I'll be using it in conjunction with my company discount, but do you know when information will be posted in the forum about a "Group Buy"? Is it usually after a few months of JGC being in production?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Much better tires in ORAII and idiot-proof-ized shifter in the '16.

New V6 is +/-; slightly better power and mileage vs. first-year blues. Start-stop is defeatable I believe so that should be a non-factor.

I'll be second or third in line for a '16.

I'm disappointed that they didn't announce Carplay/Android Auto, but I'm holding out a meager hope that the '16 8.4AN will be upgradeable when they do. Not much chance of that for a '15.

Since you keep 100k+ don't forget that it was reported back in May that FCA is bringing the JGC powertrain warranty in line with competitors. All gassers drop to 5yr/60k, Diesels stay at 5yr/100k.

Just saw an article that the 2016 V6 will have improved MPG and torque. If the article is right... Torque should be up around 300 instead of the current 260. The article didn't mention HP numbers or if there is an improvement.

Considering that my 2012 is rated at 24mpg on the highway and I get 25mpg (with heavy A/T tires), another mile or two per gallon would be a bonus.

I'm wondering if this article if accurate.

Can't remember an auto maker putting a new motor on an older platform.

I guess they are going to ride this MB chassis into the sunset.

Looks like all the rumours about complete new vehicle in 2019 are just that.

Anyway..... I hope this one is free of cylinder head issues.

The powertrain warranty is something to consider, but odds are you can upgrade the new one to be in line with the old rather inexpensively, and even though you keep the car for awhile the major concern I would have for resale between 2015 and 2016 is 2016 is getting a minor exterior refresh like the 2014 did, might make it a lot more valuable on the second hand market as to the untrained eye it may seem to be a whole new generation.

I am leaning toward the 16. Since I'm ordering my price negotiation is going t to be limited vs. old stock sitting on a dealer lot. I can probably get the same discount off invoice on a 16 as a 15 - the only difference being whatever price increase there is.
I will almost certainly buy a full extended warranty at the best price I can find. Too many expensive systems on this vehicle and I will own past the factory warranty.

My wife has start/stop on Bimmer. At first thought it was stupid but now she nor I pay it any mind, plus you can take it off.

I got $5500 off MSRP on a 2015 KL.

The start/stop is a non issue. Start the vehicle and press a button to disable start/stop.

I will say it would have made more sense to default start/stop to off position on start and THEN let me select it if I want it, but turning it off on every start just becomes second nature. My settings are so that parking brake is set every time I'm in park (steep driveway). I hit start, release brake and disable start/stop.

Everything looks like it'll be better on the '16 except that goddamn electric steering. I'd almost be tempted to forego all the other benefits just to avoid electric steering, but if you don't care about that, then no biggie.

re. the shifter, I don't understand the issue/confusion. I figured it out in about 5 min and absolutely love it, and my fiancee who is VERY technically and mechanically un-savvy figured it out in the first half hour, and neither of us has ever had an issue since. I love that shifter.

I'm in your same boat. I have decided to wait until the 16's come out for the following reasons:
* Increased performance for the Uconnect system (Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - Uconnect features for 2016 vehicles)
* V6 power and efficiency increase
* Avoiding 2 years depreciation in less than 3 months.

Not sure when the order banks open, but i'll most likely be ordering a HA/Summit in Granite, Black or White - that's the hardest decision for me.

Oh and u never have to pay higher than 1% below invoice. All u have to do for that is have an Affiliate Control Number active in Mr. Computer for 30 days and u get 1% below invoice plus all available factory rebates and incentives. You have to be an employee or member of an Affiliate but one anyone can join is Treadlightly at the $100 level to get the auto Affiliate 1%. They do good for Jeepers so the $100 goes to a good cause. Your employer may already be an Affiliate too.

Good luck.

I too like the current shifter. What is the polystable shifter coming out with the '16? I gotta have something to rest my hand on.

My '14 will becoming up for 3 years next summer and I would look to by another Limited if they figured out the transmission by then:lol:

There are no sanctioned group buys at the present time. In order for something like that to happen, the dealer or dealers interested in offering such a thing must work with the site financially, and none have been willing to do so. Therefore, the forum owner will not permit them per the posted rules/TOS. There is no free advertising permitted. You can still negotiate with dealers for advantageous pricing, especially if you are willing to purchase outside of your local area if your local dealers are not, um...dealing...
