Ordered Overland and it sure hasn't been smooth.

Ordering Experience:

Visited dealer on July 3rd, and test drove a Laredo with the 5.7, leather, 730N, 4x2 and really enjoyed the ride. Wife and I have 2 GCs now (2nd gen and 3rd gen) and have also had a 1st gen GC.

Decided to order an Overland on the spot and put up deposit.

Dealer couldn't answer questions about Quadra Drive II and Quadra Lift definitively, but committed to making sure the Jeep we got was the one we wanted.

Ordered Overland 4x4 with Natural Green Pearl, 5.7, Engine Block Heater, Beige interior, requested to be sure that we got QD II and QL.

After some time passed, found out best way to get QD II was to order with ORA II, which we did.

Got a follow up call the following week of asking if we wanted 730N or 430N (Garmin) since the options had changed. Was in tight spot at the moment and agreed to 730N.

Within a few days, asked to switch back to 430N after doing some research (Harmon doesn't have a great track record and have been using Garmin for years), said it would be taken care of.

More time goes by and Rep says he isn't happy with switching because we might change our mind again. Since this was the first thing we'd actually changed our mind on, it didn't make sense to us.

After further conversation Rep finally agrees and things go quiet. We send over simple spec sheet to insure we're all on the same page:
Overland 4x4 (must have QL and 430N)
Natural Green Pearl
Beige Interior
ORA II (must have QD II)
Hemi 5.7
Engine Block Heater

Later, we find out that the 430N was not what was requested by the rep. At this point, we are quite frustrated and are told the best way to get the nearly 50k vehicle we want is to start over and it wouldn't take any more time than changing the current order. Note, there's apparently a VIN at this point, but we never got it.

We call Jeep CSR to figure out why this is so hard to give them money and they say go ahead and reorder they'll expedite and have a VIN within a few days, this is on Aug 3.

Of course, we don't have a VIN yet and we're 6 weeks into the process

well....the QL just went into production this past week......

But thats terrible how the order has been handled. I think they have been overwhelmed with over 70,000 orders the first 1.5 months

Re: Ordered Overland and it sure hasn't been smooth.

Find another dealer! I too was test driving and ordering around the beginning of July. I experienced the same thing, no one wanted to be helpful and no one wanted to order anything. I was told "well we have some on order so why dont you wait and see what those have for options first". I kept calling around. I ended up ordering from a dealer in 75 miles away in Maryland even though I live in Virginia because they were most responsive, willing to move on price, good customer service, and placed an order immediately. Not sure where you live but most urban areas have a bunch of jeep dealers around. Call around tell them this is what you want, this is how much you want to pay, are you willing to do this? If so I will be in today with a deposit. Don't screw around, you are trying to give them 40-50K. EXPECT customer service. There are those here on the board that will say "well they are new vehicles its not the salesman's fault" blah blah. Too bad find another dealer.

When you place your order they should be able to print a build sheet for you immediately showing it as a "sold order" with you name on it somewhere, all the options you wanted, and the VON (vehicle order number). Give it a few days then call customer service and keep calling every week to check up on it.

Or better yet become a supporter and go to the forum where Milous is providing tracking of orders for supporters.

Good luck , and dont take any crap. Its your money. This is my 4th jeep and this way has worked well for me.

Yea and good luck on the whole QL thing.. Even us who ordered weeks ago don't know whats the deal. According to some employees here, they have seen some roll of the line with QL and some without QL, considering all orders after June 22nd are supposed to be standard with QL this doesn't make much sense.. You are 100% right on the QDII though, get the ORP II and if your not in a hurry and want the features of the 730N but with the garmin interface come January they are supposed to release a new model to replace the 730N.

Just curious what features of the 730N are supposed to be better than the 430N. I have looked at both and am hard pressed to find any real advantage with the 730N, but I do see some disadvantages. You can play mp3s from your usb drive with the 430N but not the 730N. The nav software is better with the 430N (Garman vs Harmon). The actual amp and speakers seem to be the same with either one(Alpine). Both have sirius sat radio with one year free. If there are advantages with the 730N please post them.

Re: Ordered Overland and it sure hasn't been smooth.

Thanks for the support and the ideas!

I'll ping them back for the VON and build sheet and run with it from there.

It's beyond frustrating, I really love Jeep and am looking forward to getting into a 2011!

Re: Ordered Overland and it sure hasn't been smooth.

Heres some I was able to quickly gather..

The 730N supposed to have split screen capability and shows album artwork. The brochure states that the 730 has handsfree texting, bluetooth streaming audio, and Sirius travel link. (This is standard in the 430N and I believe not in the 730N but will be in the 730N RHR)

The 430N has the Garmin software/graphics, bluetooth streaming audio, hands free texting and iPOD control via voice command. The 730N (RER) has the iPOD control via nav screen and steering wheel controls, faster startup, dead reckoning and split screen capability.

The 730N is still considered the higher end model but lacks some of the features of the newer 430N. The 730N RHR will replace the 730N RER but have the additional features of the 430N (Garmin) and the 730N RER

Re: Ordered Overland and it sure hasn't been smooth.

I just ordered my Overland yesterday and my dealer did not give me a VON either! Should I have expected this immediately or do I need to give them a few days? I do have a "Nebraska Purchase Contract" that has my name on it though that lists the vehicle and price.

On a side note....

My dealer told me that my v-6 overland will have the towing package because it is standard...is this true??

I read that post but it doesn't answer many questions. Based on the information I can find it seems like the 430N is the better unit, but I may be missing something. If better voice command and split screen are the only advantages then give me the 430N.

The tow package could be built in somewhere.. However if you see it under the included options/accessories then yes it will be there..

In regards to a VON, they may have done a mock up with you, especially since it was a Saturday, the people who put through the orders may not have been there.. Come tomorrow, you should be able to get an updated build sheet with a VON if it was ordered. Did you put down a firm deposit (usually like 1,000)
