Overland Diesel 4x4 - lease price help?

Considering another GC and thinking about a lease for this one. What should I be shooting for on a 3 year/12k mile lease, MSRP of $51,190? Appreciate any help.

Negotiate the price of the vehicle first...and that should be based on % off invoice, not MSRP. Then negotiate the lease with $0 down. Never make a down payment on a lease. And don't let the dealer(s) just hand you monthly prices. You need to get the actual numbers including vehicle cost, residual (value at the end of the lease), money factor (effectively the interest rate), etc., to be able to compare your deals. The higher the residual and lower the cost, the more reasonable your payment will be.

Appreciate it Jim. I will only be working with one dealer and hoping to keep it simple. I'm happy to do the math behind the scenes but would rather just negotiate a single number with the salesman rather than haggle on multiple variables. That has worked well for me when purchasing vehicles out right in the past but if it doesn't work for leases just let me know.

You still should endeavor to get that information so you can evaluate the deal. Again, negotiate the vehicle price first, then go for the lease, $0 down.

Thanks and I definitely will.

Anyone have any comparable lease deals they could share?

Re: Overland Diesel 4x4 - lease price help?

Found a few examples in this thread: Is this a good deal on a lease?

FWIW my dealer has all their Overlands listed online $4-5k off sticker, so that seems promising.

Re: Overland Diesel 4x4 - lease price help?

A lease isn't all that much different from traditional financing, there are just a few more factors to consider. You still negotiate the price as if you were buying. Then you need to find out what the going money factor and residual is for the vehicle you want. Edmunds has a "prices paid" forum that are almost always spot on for me. Make sure you know what your usage is (mileage and wear and tear). Mileage will affect the residual, term, and MF.

I heavily considered a lease but ended up getting a killer rate through one of my credit unions and the lease numbers couldn't get close enough.
