Does anyone know the part number for the mesh grille on the overlands?

You would think they would at least try to match the grilles on the laredo's and limiteds versus having two different inserts for the upper and lower grilles.

My dealer checked on the Stainless Steel Mesh Option again several days ago. Still "not available"! :(

My new Leredo-X grille was damaged by an installer that was putting 3M paint protection on the hood. I think he melted the chrome with his heat gun when removing the Jeep emblem on the hood. He bought a new grille for me, it's the Overland mesh grille, not chrome mesh but black mesh behind the chrome on the front. I put it in myself, and it looks so much better than the stock Leredo Grille with the vertical fins. It matches the lower grille perfectly.

The link is the full summit grille, you mentioned you've been waiting for "inserts". Which did you order the summit grille or is the insert finally available? I thought it was established the overland grill is one piece and no insert can be added.. Thanks!

Still can't figure why the Chrome "Summit" Grille is available, but the Mopar Accessory Chrome "Mesh" Grille is not?

I can because most people will think they are just inserts and easy to install. The black inserts (fins or the mesh) on all the models is the full grille that holds the entire front end together. The chrome outer cover is the only thing easily removable.

If they made the mesh grille it would have to be a full piece just like the summits. So why make an additional grille when people can buy the summits. Just my thoughts on it though.

Just completed my install. Looks pretty nice, not a tremendous difference but it does class it up bit. Jut my 2 cents. It really was extremely easy to complete. Took about 35 minutes start to finish. I used the instructions from this link listed earlier in someone's post: http://www.jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=20481 The only difference in the steps I took was rather than "cutting" off the pop rivets, I actually chose to drill them out. Used something like 1/8" drill bit took it in just a tad and then popped it right off. Rather then purchasing a "pop rivet gun" that I saw someone mention, I just went down to O'Reilly's and picked up some universal body trim inserts and they fit perfectly and look no different than the originals.

One tip if you choose to do this is in regards to the black trim around the wheel well. He mentions not pulling to hard because the trim is still attached, well if you can see the gray or green colored tab (see his image by the tape), you have already pulled to hard. I should have taken a picture, but in order to release that clip without breaking the point where it attaches to the black trim, reach up behind the felt liner with your hand and some pliers and gently squeeze the clip from the back side and it will pop out without the potential of damaging your trim. Once you get to this point, you will likely see what I am talking about. (perhaps I was just unlucky, but I consider myself very meticulous so if others have popped that clip out by simply pulling on the trim... kudos to you)

We have another WK2 that I have purchased the grill for so perhaps I can get some photos next time around. Best wishes to all who take on this simple upgrade.

Cause personally I don't like the Summit grill at all. The mesh to me is Way CLASSIER! Got a real cool Bently/Jaguar look to it, while the Summit grill looks cheesy. JMHO.

I'd pay the price for the full piece and I have a feeling others would as well.

The really frustrating thing is that they'd show the damn thing in the accessories catalog and then NOT PRODUCE IT!

That is a Overland SUMMIT grille on Ebay. The hex design of the standard Overland grille is just black plastic.

220783813549 Ebay item is the standard Overland grille
130521333778 Ebay item is the standard Overland grille.

Wish people would stop calling this the "Mesh" grille. :slapfight:

This is not the Stainless Steel "Mesh" grille, but rather the grille that comes on the Summit

This is the MESH Grille:

That's exactly the one I want. The regular Summit grill is the same plastic with the 'chrome' being painted on the front surface. I checked it out at a JEEP dealer last week and was disappointed. I'm not a big fan of the dark wood in the Summit which is why I'm leaning toward the Overland with all the Summit options but hoping for this mesh grille. Of course, I'm talking about an early '13 model so by then, maybe MOPAR will have this puppy available?

I'm currently in the process of finding a shop to perform the matching paint color over the chrome finish. Once I do, I will swap out the limited/laredo stock grille and replace with a std. overland grille (along with chrome finished removed, matching MG paint color.)

The laundry list is growing including replacing the chrome door handles, mirror caps, removing door trim...and maybe, must maybe finishing the lower body clading in matching MG paint.

Of course, to get the Grille you need the original package. This is from a post by Milous in the 2012 model section. http://wk2jeeps.com/wk2_2012_features.htm

My intention (if I'm ever able to find the "Mesh" grill), is to paint the outline/trim of the grill the body color of the car, and leave just the "mesh" stainless.

I installed the Overland grille in my Laredo-X today and it took me a little more time but most of that was spent double checking the instructions to avoid any costly mistakes. Start to finish was closer to an hour for me.

I used the instructions from this link listed earlier in someone's post: http://www.jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=20481
For those of you thinking about doing this yourself rather than taking your GC to the dealer or bodyshop, the link provided will prove invaluable. Kudos and my personal thanks to pbalias for taking the time to document and photograph the process of removing the bumper cover!

The only difference in the steps I took was rather than "cutting" off the pop rivets, I actually chose to drill them out. Used something like 1/8" drill bit took it in just a tad and then popped it right off.
I used a small needle nose pliers to simply pop the heads of the rivets off. This worked very well for me and made no marks on the fender flares.

Rather then purchasing a "pop rivet gun" that I saw someone mention, I just went down to O'Reilly's and picked up some universal body trim inserts and they fit perfectly and look no different than the originals.
I followed the OP lead here and went to our local ACE hardware store. I've bought enough specialty fasteners in that place to know that they carry a good assortment of plastic automotive trim fasteners. I found what I consider to be a very close match for $0.50 each.

One tip if you choose to do this is in regards to the black trim around the wheel well. He mentions not pulling to hard because the trim is still attached, well if you can see the gray or green colored tab (see his image by the tape), you have already pulled to hard.
I was very careful during this process, but one of those green clips that hold the fender flare to the body popped out anyway. I was able to push the clip through from the backside and reattach it good as new.

I never liked the slotted grille, but was reluctant to try replacing it myself for fear that I would damage something in the process. With the help of the pictures from pbalias, I was able to get this completed in a very short time and I think the results are worth the time and effort.

I would encourage anyone contemplating this swap to give it a shot.

Do you have to completely remove the bumper to swap the grill or just loosen it a bit ? my dealer wants $180 to swap out the grille!! I also have the front camera and dont want to screw that up somehow.

My new grille has been body matched, and I picked up the plastic inside to put in some race mesh I bought. The grille (and the rest of the front end including hid fog projectors) should hopefully be put together this weekend. Took about 35 minutes to cut out the plastic grid and cut the mesh to fit. Going to hold it in place with 3m tape and a couple self fastening screws.

Race mesh was $35 for a sheet large enough to do the grille. The shop i purchased from, metro restyling, was local but they have an ebay store with about 6 different types of grille material. I will need another sheet to do the lower grill. Overall a much better value then the "pre-done" one available for $300 since it also requires you to cut the grid out
