Re: Overland on Restriction?

I wonder if the hold on 4x4's might be related to the infamous shudder issue that so many people are talking about. I've been planning on ordering around the 1st of March for a variety of reasons. Hopefully the shudder issue will be fixed and I won't have to wait more than 8 weeks for delivery...

Re: Overland on Restriction?

I would guess they have so many orders that they have a backlog and dont want them to keep piling up. If some of you guys would do a little searching...you would probably find a dealer in your area with the same 2011 on their lot or in transport. Like the OP for instance...that is a basic Overland...why not search local dealers for that exact Jeep? I know i was looking for a VERY rare Overland for my wife and local dealers had like 5 in the exact config. Theres no need to special order a package that is being produced everyday and has been since the start of production. Now you guys wanting the summit, or the brown leather, 730 rhr etc....I can see ordering. But you then have to realize theres gonna be a wait for a very popular vehicle and a special config.

+1 It took about a week of seaching every Jeep dealer inventory in the whole country, but I found 3 Jeeps out there exactly like I wanted, and freighted the closest one. I think some may be giving up too easily before ordering.

Where are you located and how do you feel about saddle?

I'm not sure where you're located, but here's another one.

Just throwing a couple more out there, feel free to ignore me if you prefer to order.

I believe all 3 of these were in the northeast. You could probably split the freight with your dealer and have an Overland in the driveway in a week instead of 3+ months.

Cheers,
NB

Re: Overland on Restriction?

Chrysler is not the only manufacturer being hit by these material shortages, I was just reading an article yesterday that Ford is having to shut down production on the F150 because of material shortages.

With the way the economy was the last couple years and how hard the auto industry was hit, all the supporting companies really took it hard. Many went out of business and the ones that were left cut back to the bare minimum. Now that cars are just starting to sell again, many haven't taken the risk to ramp up fearing another collapse.

So don't be so quick to jump on Jeep, it is industry wide.

Re: Overland on Restriction?

Thanks for all of the input. I am located in Atlanta, GA. The closest JGC configured to my specs is over 1000 miles away. Most of the Jeeps down here are 4x2.

From a timing standpoint, I ordered hoping that I would receive the JGC in March - when I'll have the appropriate funds. I'll keep checking as I get closer to that date to determine if one shows up within 500 miles of me.

The dealership did offer to have one shipped in, but wanted $850 to do so.

Too many orders, not enough capacity. At least that's my guess.

Amen to that. Hell, I kept searching even AFTER I placed my order (as I told my salesman I would). I had a refundable deposit, I was candid with the guy, and I was willing to spend a few hundred bucks in overhead to avoid a wait. And to top it off, I had a heck of a good time on a little road trip with my daughter to pick that bad boy up. There are usually plenty of options when it comes to problem solving. They may cost a bit more in time, effort, or money, but they're usually there.

I encourage everyone who is looking to get comfortable with cars.com and its advanced search feature!

That's exactly where I pulled all those mineral gray 3.6 overlands from.

Re: Overland on Restriction?

Toelkes1, Milous, and Shaunrw, thanks for the info on the GC. I have contacted Jeep with all of my questions and concerns so many times that they scolded me and said they have told me many times to speak with my dealer. Well, I talked with my dealer yesterday and he did not tell me that the GC was on hold for now. I am sure he did not know becasue I feel he would have told me. I am glad you shared that info with us. Please continue to do so. At least I will be sure to get this news. I ordered mine on the 15th, but I want the saddle interior with the stone white exterior and the 730N on my Overland. My other options are the chrome package, the off road adventure 2 package and the adaptive cruise control package with the V6 engine. JoeBinotto, I totally understand your frustrations as you can see from the beginning of my post. It is because of their changes in the vehicle that I have had to contact them so often and they still don't have what I want! I am happy to have you guys to chat with and air my frustrations, too. Let's continue the sharing!

My Overland was originally ordered before Christmas but then had to be re-ordered into the system 2 or 3 weeks ago once the 730n RHR radio became available (I insisted on that radio over the 430n). I just called the Jeep Information Center (800.992.1997) and a live person actually assists you with information and build status regarding your ordered vehicle. I asked them about the whole restriction issue and the gentleman informed me that only effects immediately new and future orders. Again, my new order was keyed into the system around 1/14 and it is not effected by this Overland restriction due to lack of materials. I believe he hinted it was more an issue on Overland Summits than any other model, at least this is what I was just informed. I hope he is accurate because he also told me production of new GC's is running a little ahead of schedule and that I should check back next week with the latest ETA of my vehicle which is right now running 10-12 weeks. Definitely give that number a call if want to find out status on your recently ordered GC. Good luck.
