I thought it was strange too. Tried a few VIN's I had from when I was comparing (just bought my '14) and the pattern held true. 2013 build dates would come up but 2014 went to Chinese. All VINs were coded "e".

Re: Overland or Summit??

Been lurking for a while now. First post so go easy This topic pretty much hits it on the nose with my dilemma, Overland or Summit, 2015 or 2016.

Coming from a 2006 LR3 I wanted the utility and luxury that my Rover offered. It has never let me down but time to move on. Big fan of the late model GC's and the deciding factor was the diesel. I was looking at a Summit next to the Overland this weekend and noticed that the overland sat a bit taller. This is both by fenders and mirrors, maybe an inch or so at best. That made me wonder if things were any different suspension wise between the 2. Maybe not the parts but the height calibration or the air setup. Anyone know of anything hard part wise that are different? I would pick the Overland for the look and rating but am stuck on the Summit brown interior. I don't want to limit my capabilities on things I cannot change though.

Here are my thoughts...

Summit:
Brown Interior and more comfortable *probably my #1 is the Summit interior
California Edition (less chrome than overland)
Acoustic Glass (novelty but may be nice with diesel)
More Gadgets (not a big deal but I'm a tech fanatic)
*can order skiplates

Overland
Tow Hooks
Fenders and bumpers
Price
18" wheels

As far as 2015/2016. No one really working on that much savings. I like the tech upgrades for 2016 and if the price is pretty close to 2015 then why not wait. I was going to see if I could get in on DC groupbuy when 2016's are available to order. Thanks.

Overland or Summit??

^^They sat a bit different because they both had air suspension. One was probably on a different setting or had settled more than the other because one went longer without being started. Overland and Summit have the same suspension...

The Summit also has more acoustic glass then the Overland, along with active noise cancellation which I read reduces interior noise by up to 10 decibels.

They both have 'real' leather but they are different. Also the Summit has softer seat cushions. Combine that with the softer leather and I believe the Summits seats show wear faster and worse.

^^^^Is the outer diam of the Overland 18" rim/tire larger than Summit 20" rim/tire combo? That and/or one of them was in easy entry/exit mode and one wasn't...

by the numbers, they are pretty close in overall height. Of course this depends on the tire being in actual spec but if they were the same time just different size, this would be the results. Someone can check my math.

265/60/18 = 30.47" tall, 10.43" wide
265/50/20 = 30.39" tall, 10.43" wide

Re: Overland or Summit??

'tech, the Summit you saw may have been in "park" mode relative to the suspension while the Overland was a "normal". As noted, they have exactly the same suspension and there is essentially no difference in OEM tire diameter regardless of wheel diameter.

While there are still some features standard on Summit that are not available on the Overland, at least they have made available the HK sound setup on the later at this point. If you're buying soon, the MY15 is your option...MY16 will not be physically available until about January 2016 due to the late introduction.

Thanks for the clarity. I'm used to Air Suspension from my rover but wanted to be sure. I appreciated the off road nature more of the Overland but some things in the Summit I just can't give up.

There's technically nothing in the Overland that you'd have to give up really. Unless you're worried about headlight washers lol

Agreed diffs r narrowing....FWIW, those eyeball washers r very useful keeping the winter slush off them...also, Overland doesn't have the adaptive headlamps (ehh) nor the front park sensors (hugely helpful snugging up to things)...

Re: Overland or Summit??

The only thing that really matters to me is the brown interior, I love that color. For some reason every single Overland with the tan that I sat in and drove was absolutely filthy, even at different dealerships. The light color just seems like a dirt magnet.

The other stuff I really don't care much about, I actually like the bumpers and wheel wells on the Overland much better. Basically I am leaning towards a Summit for the interior, the glass, and the better seating. I'll likely put 18's on as long as brakes don't cause an issue.
