How can you tell if the traffic issue was real or imaginary? These systems try to route me around imaginary traffic issues all the time, and I'm usually in a real traffic issue before I get any warning.

You will find most of the switch gear and many components used across chrysler products. The window controls are identical to my 2009 liberty's, for example. Saves a ton of production cost.

Pretty sure they're an ex-Mercedes part too. Early to mid 00s C and E class as I recall. Probably some slight variations, but I seem to recall working on a few with the same switches.

Well in this case I was able to actually see the traffic issue and the unit guided me onto a service road. It has also tried to route me around construction that I happened to know was NOT a slow-down issue. In the end you will probably have to put some faith in the unit and know that even if you don't get the ideal route at least you won't get lost.

Now if I can just get "Guide me to a name" to work!

I live in the south so winter weather isn't really a problem for me. But I was buying a Jeep so I wanted 4x4 capability regardless in case I ever move or take the jeep up north in winter. It was difficult to find 4x4 models in the south last year.

Re: Overland owner review and Pics

One other issue....

I cannot get the NAV system to function by voice and posted about it elsewhere. 730 Media center on a new 2012 Overland and....

"Guide me to a name" just does not work. It almost always says it can't find directions. If I say "Find McDonalds" it just asks if I want a route there without showing me any locations. If I say "Starbucks" it won't find it at all.

Using the "Find" command only allows me to choose through lists and it's very tough to use.

All I want to be able to do is say "Best Buy" or "JFK Airport" and see the locations closest to me just like on my 160 dollar Garmin!

Any help on this would be hugely appreciated. I already fought my way through the issue where it gave 30 "village inn" locations when I said "Find POI" instead of just "Find."

Good lord. So far this Nav system is bugging me. If you TYPE into it the results are GREAT, but I'm getting nuts over the voice control!

Thanks!

Robert

Re: Overland owner review and Pics

Taking it to the dealer. It seems people are a bit too accepting when something like this doesn't work. I'm not so easy.

I paid for it so it should work. If it doesn't work then they must fix, change or update the whole system. I'll report back later today after the dealer has a look.

Re: Overland owner review and Pics

Base on what I've read over the years in 730N issues posts (there is quite a long one in the audio/visual/navigation subsection with plenty of hard headed personalities), the dealer will replace the radio, you will complain again, the dealer will replace the radio, you will complain again until you either get tired of complaining or the dealer tells you its an issue that chrysler is working.. or perhaps say thats normal.

Theirs a fella on here that says a significantly improved software version will be out in the fall. You may just want to wait a couple months and perhaps save you some frustration dealing with the service department.

Then again it could be operator error, and the dealer may be able to guide you ... I'm jesting..

Well, as you have said in another post, "people have become too accepting of poor performance".. BTW is not the reroute algorithm in the radio, it is more the inaccurate and slow response Sirius traffic reporting system... garbage in garbage out.

All GPS has their quirks, a couple months ago the unit insisted that my wife had to drive on the Atlanta airport runways to get to her destination. It didn't care that there was a rather large fence and some rather angry looking armed guards in the way. The unit always wants me to go 20 miles out of my way when going home, just to avoid a side road. The unit also takes me to the wrong providence RI John street. I don't think you should ever put full trust in any GPS to not get you lost, but they can certainly be a decent guide. You should be able to at least determine where you are.... so I guess that means you won't be lost

Re: Overland owner review and Pics

I picked up my new red GC Jeep yesterday afternoon. It is a beautiful car!

Just had a few minutes to drive it and mess with the UConnect. Looking good.

But, I hate the:

MOPAR CHROME EDITION GROUP (AEE) [MSRP $995 / INV. $ 886]
Mopar Chrome Tubular Side Steps (MRT)

I am pissed I paid 886 for the anti-functional side steps. Maybe it is because I ended up with 18" wheels or because I am a 6'3" 275+# old man with stiff knees, but these steps are just in the way! Even my 5' wife said "they gotta go"! I will have my dealer remove them ASAP - anybody want them at a good price? These tubes are too narrow and fit too close to the body to be useful. I have been driving my 2003 F250 4X4 for 10 years and its steps are necessary and I always use them. With the Jeep, I have to step over the steps to get into the driver's seat. Bummer.

My only other early complaint is the miniature cubby hole where the SD card is (to be) installed. My big, stiff hand couldn't push the small card into the slot - I had to have my wife do it!

Pretty small stuff, huh? I'll drive about a bit and report more later.
