Re: Overland vs. Limited w/ Nav, Luxury, Tow & Off road group: What are the differenc

I seem to do fine with my mirrors and backup camera when maneuvering the trailer... maybe that bump I felt was a small animal.

If you are a mall crawler and commute a lot get the nicest GC you can afford.

If you use this thing as a sport rig... get a nice Loredo.

Re: Overland vs. Limited w/ Nav, Luxury, Tow & Off road group: What are the differenc

Looks like a new 2014 335xi is in the lead. Wife likes Jeep, buts wants to wait a year or two & get one to replace her van. Wants the Overland, but only with front parking sensors, which are now only in the Summit. She hates the Summit & says "I don't want a choice of poop brown or black for an interior". I remain concerned with the reliability and electronics. Another year or so ought to season it nicely.

Drove a loaded 335xi. 99% of the interior room of a 535, way more equipment and fast. One test had it at 4.4 0-60.

I was actually thinking that the new 3 has a lot more interior room than the old 3...I like the 5 much more inside, but outside the two look a lot alike.

I think thats the better solution than you being disappointed with the Jeep as your daily for the next two years...

Thanks, hard to see how one can be "disappointed" with a vehicle as nice as the JGC. My wife really likes it, but even the kids ask "why do we need 2 big cars?" Hated to admit it, but they have a point.

I do very much like the Overland, but aren't sure I can get used to a bigger and far slower, even if monumentally better off road (not that we do any off road.....) vehicle every single day when I am alone are in it 60% of the time and only 2 of us in the car another 38%. There are certainly worse things in the world than driving a loaded 335xi every day!

In the end, we are pretty much set on waiting another 2 years or so to wring a few more miles out the Sienna. We want (and she needs, I hate to say) front parking sensors, which I hope will be put on the Overland in a year or so. We still need a van for a few more years and its paid for. Even as an '05 it has HID lights, laser cruise and a Lexus like interior. Way nicer than the current de-contented model.

I too prefer the 5's interior, but a loaded 335 with all the tech and driving aids is several thousand+ less than the 5 and literally within 1" or so in pretty much every interior measurement. Not worth it to us.

Still......I walked past a '14 JGC in a parking lot today & still wonder if I'm making the right choice, but in the end I see one again in the family. We had a 99 and an '02. The current version is light years beyond the older ones.

This is a great board. Gonna hang around!

Well...I've been disappointed in the reliability of mine, but the vehicle itself is very nice. Obviously despite that I'm shopping for another one. What I mean is the Jeep is a certain type of vehicle, and if you really want a sportier, higher performance vehicle at some point you will be disappointed that you got it.

It is a good board, good luck with the 3! Keep us posted.

I also didn't want a Sunroof. Something else to break, leak, squeak or whistle.
If you don't like the standard silver 18's, you can also get black out mopar 18s.

At almost 4k miles, my sunroof has yet to leak, squeak, or whistle.
Unless the pigeons get bigger, hopefully it also won't break.

Are the black out mopars a special order?

Your approach makes the most financial sense, but I tire of a vehicle long before 12 years and am generally disinclined to spend increasing amounts of time and $ on repairs.

This said, with the ever more complex electronics I have to wonder if one will even be able to keep a vehicle. Can you imagine trying to get a new touch screen after 10-12 years? Will they still be made? The rate technology is changing I have my concerns. Since most tech is tied into the car's electrical architecture I tend to think retrofits and repairs may end up being hard to prohibitively expensive.

[QUOTE=JWS360;8852 I tend to think retrofits and repairs may end up being hard to prohibitively expensive.[/QUOTE]

Thats an interesting point. I purchased the life time warranty. Reading the policy, It says that should a repair cost be more than the book value of the vehicle. Mopar will pay the book value of the vehicle and then the policy will be terminated. So in this case would the book value of the overland be higher?
