Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

I would honestly have to say no. And I say that for a number of reasons:

1) Chrysler/Jeep dealership service is the worst I've ever encountered - It's like pulling teeth to get them to do TSB work for instance. I have to call Chrysler Customer Care first...then have them locate a dealership near me to perform the work...pathetic. I'm jealous of the service my wife gets at the BMW dealership...and no I don't care about the free coffee & donuts, but I do like the no questions asked free loners she gets though. Why are Jeep dealerships so cheap on the loaners? I've always got a loaner from the other manufacturers.

2) My first early build 2014 GC Limited was a disaster, so many issues with it I lost count. I liked the vehicle enough though to give Jeep another chance...so I traded it in for a later build 2014 Overland. So far so good, but because of all the TSBs/fixes Chrysler/Jeep keeps pumping out for the WK2 GC, I can't help but feel that my Jeep will never be up to date with all the latest fixes...and I don't ever expect the Chrysler/Jeep dealerships will ever help me out in that regard.

3) Did I mention the service at the Chrysler/Jeep dealerships sucks?

I like my Overland, but I will DEFINITELY be trading it in for a different vehicle when the warranty wears out. I've lost faith in the Grand Cherokee's reliability, and I just can't take the lousy service at the dealerships anymore.

The number of issues: CV Boot leaks, 3.6 transmission fishbiting, Brake booster, multiple TIPM replacments, UCONNECT gremlins, Sunroof rattles, misaligned lift gate, clunking in rear suspension, fire hazard in vanity mirror lamps, incorrect/misfitted fuel door, wheel corrosion caused by wheel cap and other issues noted across 2011-2014 models has got me thinking twice about my purchase. I keep thinking "Jeep will fix these problems with the next year model" but new issues seem to replace the old ones.

I have a baby on the way and I don't need the additional stress of vehicle repair or lack of transportation while waiting for repair and/or back ordered parts. I love the looks and technology of the Grand Cherokee, but my head is telling me to choose reliability and resale in the 4Runner.

If you could do your purchase over again, would you?
Absotively.

But then, I've only had a very small number of what turned out to be harmless issues--the dash Xmas tree syndrome and two bogus MILs.

Otherwise, I might have duplicated the press stunt from the original GC intro.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

Yes for sure.
Best 4wd i have ever owned.
I must be lucky with my dealer ship, service blokes are great and never an argument with warranty [ which was leather dash replacement and rear spare wheel cover replacement]
Nothing mechanical

Yes, I'd buy one again.... just like I've been doing since 1992.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

Notwithstanding all of the issues I've had with my EcoDiesel, I'd have to say yes I would buy another one based on the fact that my second choice was a Porsche Cayenne Diesel and I can't spend that much money on a car and I really prefer to buy an American made vehicle. I can understand why the 4Runner is appealing but the powertrain and tech are from the mid-2000s - it really doesn't compare to the Jeep. There really isn't another SUV out there with the design, feature set, capability and engine choices the JGC has for the price.

Based on my experience though, I would urge you to do the following (all of which I wish I had done):

1. Do a thorough and careful pre-delivery inspection of your truck. Demand that any and all fit and finish issues be addressed BEFORE taking delivery. Closely examine the paint, panel gaps, etc.

2. Require that all applicable software updates and TSBs are performed. FCA makes dealers jump through all kinds of hoops before they will authorize these to be done. Again, BEFORE taking delivery.

3. Tell the dealer that in order to close they deal, they are going to have to sell you a MaxCare plan (the extended warranty) at cost plus $50. These cars are not going to be as reliable as a Honda or Toyota. Wish they were, but they aren't (based on objective, third party surveys, not the anecdotal "mine has been perfect" feedback you'll often see here). There is a reason why Jeep is second to last in the JD Power survey and it isn't because there is a vast conspiracy against Jeep. If the dealer won't agree, get the extended warranty from Ziegler or Zeller Motors (you can buy it from any franchised Jeep dealer; I bought mine from Clay at Zeller Motors for a great price). Many here will tell you to forget the extended warranty because Jeeps are super reliable. I would not buy a 2014 JGC without one.

4. Don't assume you are going to get the same treatment as you would at a BMW dealer, Lexus dealer or Cadillac dealer. Generally speaking, Jeep dealers don't roll that way and they never will. Some dealers are gems but most are not. I don't think that is the way it should be but it is so you just have to accept and deal with it if you're going to be a happy Jeep owner.

Good luck!

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

Yes I would have bought again but would have waited and got a 2015 instead of an early model 2014. I think trouble reports for the 2015 MY are going to go down drastically compared to the 2014. dealer network will be just as bad but problems will be fewer so less time spent experiencing the "dealer"

2011-2014 retain high resale. Not like Grand Cherokees 2010 and older. I say go for it. I love mine and would buy another.

I'm not sure anyone has to jump through hoops to do updates. The TSBs themselves typically instruct the dealers to perform the operation on all in stock vehicles.

If dealers aren't willing to do them, I think it is a dealer problem. The service manager where I go told me the dealership spent a small fortune upgrading their computer system in order to do the updates in a reasonable time. Maybe that's why they do every one I ask for and some I don't.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

My dealer is also a Mercedes Benz dealer. I don't get treated any different to my father with his Mercedes or my brother with a BMW.
Perhaps finding a decent dealer is the difference.
Could be a good idea to have a thread on good dealers that people are happy with.
Ps I would definitely go for the V8 again.😆
