Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

My dealer is also a Mercedes Benz dealer. I don't get treated any different to my father with his Mercedes or my brother with a BMW.
Perhaps finding a decent dealer is the difference.
Could be a good idea to have a thread on good dealers that people are happy with.
Ps I would definitely go for the V8 again.😆

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

I do not own a WK2, but my WK is over 107k now and it was a previous rental car. My father has a 2008 4runner limited 4x4 he bought new. I have driven both extensively and can say the following things about the 4runner (which despite its exterior appearance is the same now was it was in 08).

-has been just as reliable as my WK (I had a heated seat module go out at 25k, some minor interior trim things, he had a seized brake caliper at 60k)
-seats are garbage, they are way too short and almost force you to sit in a slouch position
-handles much worse than my WK despite both having a live rear axle and IFS (and he has the high end x-reas sport suspension which does soak up road bumps a bit better at speed though)
-fuel economy is the same, his is maybe 1 mpg better
-4runner has garbage steering wheel controls for audio/etc

+he has big huge buttons for all the climate control settings, i have knobs for manual climate
+slightly more power compared to my boat anchor 3.7L (He has the 4.0 v6)
+it has the cool sliding rear window

Otherwise I can think of no other advantages. Mine has been flawless for my use on and off road (forest service roads, heavy snow, all sorts of crappy gravel and dirt tracks) and I much prefer my 4hi(4auto) setting compared to his vehicle. I've beat the crap out of my vehicle and it has not skipped a beat, his is a commuter (60+ mi per day in upstate ny) and that's it. I also have over 90k on the same brakes lol (front and rear rotors and pads were swapped when I bought it).

I love my Jeep, and wouldn't trade it for a 4runner...

I'm trouble free on my 14. So, yeah. I would. They say the early build 14's had trouble. But more often than not those early builds were fine. Some weren't. True with any car. It's a crap shoot with all cars, not just jeep. There's a lemon on every new car lot in America no matter the make.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

2014 Limited bought Nov 2013 built July 2013. 8000 miles on it and not a damn thing wrong. This Jeep replaced our 1007 Grand with 182K miles on it. Still running good when we sold it.

If you are worried about every potential thing that can go wrong buy a rice burner. Otherwise, buy the Jeep built in Detroit USA and pat yourself on the back for walking the walk of buying US made. These are wonderful vehicles. I'd buy another one tomorrow.

That is all.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

I currently own both an early build '11 and an early build '14. I've had a couple of the TSB issues, but no breakdowns, nothing mechanical, never stranded. I still love my '11 and my wife loves her '14. I was a little nervous when reading these forums but you have to remember that mainly only the people with problems post. There are LOTS of GC's on the road that have not had problems. But just in case, I bought the MaxCare Lifetime service agreement on both of mine and if I ever trade for a new one that will be part of the conditions for the new one. I think buying ANY new vehicle nowadays with all of the electronics and data buses it's a crap shoot. Heck, GM can't even get 100 year old ignition switch stuff right. Ford has got a couple of problematic models. Toyota had the runaways a few years ago. There are no guarantees. Yes, I would buy another GC.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

Hey it's funny you created this thread. As I just responded to one of my own thread, I saw this one pop up so I figured i'll share my experience before exiting.

WK2s are great SUVs. We've owned one for the last 3 years and had 0 issues. Out of all the vehicles we've owned, this one was absolutely one of our favorites. We put about 73k miles and it was bought brand new. Oil changes were done every 4k miles and serviced it by the book. It was a lease and we loved it so much we ended up buying it. That should say a lot.

The reason for us leaving JEEP and going back to Toyota is because of JEEP's lack of customer care. I had the worst experience of my life this past week. Dealers treat you like peasant and worthless despite how much money you've given them to purchase and service your vehicle. I couldn't get a single dealer to perform TSB work on my seized engine. They all said it's too big of a repair and I need to pay upfront then work it out with Chrysler. Reported all 3 dealers to BBB and TRIED to report it to Chrysler but couldn't get a hold of a supervisor/manager/person in charge for the past 3 days LOL!!

I broke down with my 8 month old in the back seat, which is what drove my anger through the roof.

My advice, you have a newborn coming, go with reliability that's guaranteed (Toyota/Honda). Otherwise make sure you find a great dealer because no matter how many warranty/TSB/extended warranty you have, JEEP dealers are the worst jerkoffs to deal with (from my experience).

Good luck with everything.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

I would NOT buy one again.....there are just TOO MANY of them on the road today - they are TOO POPULAR and I don't feel special anymore!

Seriously, yes, I would definitely buy a GC again ... this is my SIXTH GC and have enjoyed all of them. Great value and features for the money and just the right size.

I think there are two lessons to learn though:

(1) Don't buy an early build all new or major refreshed GC (probably goes for ANY new/major refreshed vehicle on the market anyway). Jeep clearly rushed the 2014 out a bit too early.

(2) Find a good dealership for service. If you go to a bad one, don't beat your head over it, just find a new one and give them the business instead. Unfortunately there are bad dealerships out there and that is something Jeep needs to continue to work on. They have a great product, now they need more control over the follow up service experience.
