Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

I have had three GC of my own, and my daughter has one, three have gone 290,000 plus miles and I got rid of them because of rust- not mechanical problems: Never changed or rebuilt an engine or trans mission or transfer case, just alternators, radiators, water and fuel pumps etc. I had two Grand Wagoneers, one Wagoneer, and two Cherokees and all had virtualy no majopr problems: BUT__BUT__ My newest one is a 2006 GC and I believe ( correct me if I am wrong) It was built when Chrysler was owned by Mercedes Benz and it is the worst Jeep I ever had- nothing electroniclay works, the engine lights keep comming on, the auto wipers don't work, the tire pressure system doesn't work, the EMS light ec keeps comming on and they built the stupid thing with about 1/4 Inch of clearence at the fron balla joint to the tirelimiting any options in getting an aggressive tire for winter:
I would definatelly but another Jeep GC again - just never get one built when Mercedes Benz owned Chrysler:

This is ironic in that this is my 4th Jeep. I bought this 2012 JGC based on my 265,000 miles of nearly trouble free enjoyment of my 1995 JGC. I'd gladly trade places with any of you that are in the 87% camp.

It is frustrating and extremely embarrassing when I have passengers and they ask why the Jeep is jerking like it is and I have to tell them that Chrysler doesn't know and won't fix it. Most of them say something like "I'd sue them". Sure, and waste another pile of money on that waste of time.
Hmmm.....seems like you would have a lemon law claim. Press for them to replace it with a new build if you haven't already. That's what I would do. You may need to get a lawyer involved unfortunately though to manage the case unless you have the time. Sorry to hear you are in the "other camp" and aren't happy. They are great vehicles unless of course you got a bad one...so don't settle for one that is bad. Best wishes.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

I can't wait to buy another Grand Cherokee. My 2011 V6 Limited has been mostly trouble free. I have a Max care warranty so not worried about anything. My dealer is located right next to a Mercedes Benz dealership which I deal with for my wife's car. The MB experience is superior in every way to Jeeps but I still love my WK2. There are NO guarantees with any vehicle. A bad experience with Jeep made you leave the brand. I agree they should of taken better care of you. In this day and age where competition between brands is so intense you would think taking care of customers would be number one on their agenda.

You and me both... My wife tried an American car for 4 years. She loved the car, hated the service she received and went back in a M-B.

When I went Jeep shopping we pulled into a dealer where she had her PT Cruiser Convetible serviced once and said, "We are not buying a Jeep here, Service is awful, they made me walk in the rain to the rental car place around the block". I keep hoping one day the American dealers and Service Departments will get "IT" , but I'll probably be dead by then.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

Early build 2014 limited here. I have not been without issues the most annoying has been the ORC module failure and some inadequate work at the dealer for the brake booster recall. But evidence explains everything, as I have 3 vehicles and have put the most mileage on my jeep GC over 12k in 1 year which is alot for me, in my large truck/SUV vehicle. It road trips rather well, loaded up for camping exceeding 20 mpg, so I really can't comp[lain. The verdict is still out whether I will keep it past the 3 yr. warranty though, as I do not trust it completely like I did my Tundra. 4Runner yeah, I would want that vehicle if it wan't so but ugly, and so Toyota. I vote yes as of today, with reserve.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

Well it was great bang for buck in the land down under, however there have been issues with the transmissions (but none fatal) I haven't had much trouble, that my local jeep service team wouldn't look into.

Like everyone said , the Toyota and Honda would see you through, Jeep might compel you to upgrade by the time the official warranty is up. Would I buy this again? well to answer that , if Toyota or Honda actually built something like this under their badge at its price a resounding yes, but if Jeep does what it did with the GC since 2011, I might actually buy it again

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

No. I would NOT. My 4.2013 build has been a disaster. I debated back and forth between this (limited) and the 4Runner Limited. I'm trying to find a way out of my lease and get a 4Runner limited. I do not think the 4Runner is old, or ugly and the 14 4Runners - while still using the tried and true 5 speed and not sporting a jerky and schizophrenic 8 speed tranny- have smoothed out the ride considerably. I have had my 14 Limited Grand Cherokee in for every recall, innumerable TSBs, and a host of other obscure challenges from the Uconnect gremlins to a defective seat frame. The list goes on. Sorry- but Chrysler quality has a ways to go, in my opinion and experience. What's worse, is every issue I brought up to the dealer was ignored, only to be addressed later when a TSB came out to address the many other complaints with the exact symptoms as mine. Also, the city fuel economy is a joke. While driving conservatively, and using Eco (whiplash) mode- I struggle to get to 14 MPG. Highway MPG is quite good however, as consistently around 22. Still not the advertised 24. And no, I don't drive fast or tow anything. It's a real shame Jeep didn't get mine right and that my experience has been horrific.

Many of those items that are addressed by TSBs are beyond a dealers ability to diagnose. Since most involve some kind of software update, even if the dealer could fix the specific problem, there is know way they could know ahead of time if the 'fix' will screw up something else.

Either the dealers aren't communicating that, or the customers aren't listening.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

@ bil_de Whether or not the dealer could or could not diagnose the problem, they completely dismissed the issue I complained of as a non issue. That was my point. For example, the outside temperature was mis reading by 7-12 degrees. They said 'oh that's normal'. Which we all know is not normal even in a $ 20,000 car. Months later a TSB was released to address it. So my point- and as I described it in my post- was that the dealer has dismissed and ignored my concerns and diffused my issue by a 'that's normal' reply. There were no fewer than 5 more incidents of this. Four of those including the HVAC hot/ cold issue was later fixed after 3 more dealer trips with guess what- a TSB. There should be no ambiguity in at least acknowledging the concern by saying its wrong, we will update you, we will look into it etc. I don't think it's dealer independent, either. As I took my plagued vehicle to another dealer. I was polite, patient, communicated clearly, and dismissed again.

I agree. That's what I meant when I said the dealers need to communicate better. I should have said, acknowledge the problem.

I guess, if all the vehicles have the same problem, it is normal. Not right, just normal.
