Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

Please contribute to the poll. I am considering a purchase between a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland or a 2014 (or 2015 when available) Toyota 4Runner Limited, but the issues noted in past models found in the 108 pages of Trouble Shooting/Problems/Service forums has me concerned

The number of issues: CV Boot leaks, 3.6 transmission fishbiting, Brake booster, multiple TIPM replacments, UCONNECT gremlins, Sunroof rattles, misaligned lift gate, clunking in rear suspension, fire hazard in vanity mirror lamps, incorrect/misfitted fuel door, wheel corrosion caused by wheel cap and other issues noted across 2011-2014 models has got me thinking twice about my purchase. I keep thinking "Jeep will fix these problems with the next year model" but new issues seem to replace the old ones.

I have a baby on the way and I don't need the additional stress of vehicle repair or lack of transportation while waiting for repair and/or back ordered parts. I love the looks and technology of the Grand Cherokee, but my head is telling me to choose reliability and resale in the 4Runner.

If you could do your purchase over again, would you?

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

Have you spent time in the 4runner forums going over the reoccurring issues those owners have? I came from Toyota to the Grand Cherokee and would do it all over again. I really don't think any brand is without issues and I think all car companies will suffer from the computer/software age of vehicles. I would have probably bought a 4 runner but I'm tired of Toyota changing head/tail lights and changing a knob here and there and adding a few letters to the tail gate and calling it the all new 4 runner!

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

No question, I'd by a JGC again!

Also remember that for every "problem" you see...there are hundreds, if not thousands of folks without them. People tend to report issues online in greater proportions to those who are happy. Nature of the beast...

yes, I would by my jeep again...

The 4runner is old, rehashed and incredibly ugly.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

Yes, but I would wait one model year, or buy at the end of the model year. I have an April 2013 build and it has had its glitches. But I would buy again.

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

I said no, but not because of any problems. I don't really need the capability the Jeep offers, as surf fishing in Delaware isn't worth the effort for me. I got spoiled having lived on Long Island for so many years.

There are more comfortable vehicles available with most of the same features.

I have an early build '14 that had a few problems. All were fixed while I waited and had from one to three cups of coffee. The service department where I bought it had a really bad attitude. Holden Dodge/Jeep stepped up to the plate and has provided all the service.

So, to the OP, don't be afraid to buy a JGC. And if you do have a problem, find a service department that has a helpful attitude.

I'd buy my JGC again. It's a '14 Laredo. I thought about a 4 Runner, but wasn't thrilled about the redesign. Also, I didn't want to be the guy with 2 Toyotas in his garage (wife has a Rav4, which I hate). Only thing I could use is the seating capacity and cargo area of the 4 Runner. Otherwise, the JGC is all I could want and more.

Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

Well I brought 2 Jeeps in 1yr and would stick with Jeep for a while , it's just the Tech and certain components feels rushed I've never seen a car with so many problems and TSB , I have worked in mines and in the Fire brigade most me life so far and all been Toyotas but Toyotas are boring cars to drive and look so plain inside and outside , but the bastards are tough. Give you an example our cars at the underground mine where I am they weld plates in the gear shifts so we can only drive gears from 1st to 3rd gear and reverse gear and they take out the hi to low range selector so it's always locked in low range .

So we are doing no more than 40klm but we scream the car to 50 to 60 and we load up with about 2 tonne of explosives and the man carriers take about 10 blokes in them and service crews carry about 2 to 4 tonne depending what their doing , so all the cars on the site are locked in at these gears and low range and we do 12hr shifts with 1 hr break . But these Toyotas mate they work there arse off , rarely ever blow gearboxes and there screaming at 4000rpm constantly ,our charge car cooks the motor because we overload it to much sometimes going up the steep incline, but ya have ya crib and it's right to go .

The mine site changes these Toyota land cruisers ever 2 to 3 yrs only because the body rusts out on them but the bloody motor and gearboxes keep going , I have been at this mine now for 20 yrs and you would never get a jeep to do that lol they have tried other cars Nissan , Mazda ,Holden etc just to try and save money but always come back to Toyota , tough cars but there boring on design inside and outside and rough on seating , especially for the money you pay for them . Nearly every minesite in Oz has a Toyota Landcruiser utes and wagons .

Re: Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

Im replied "NO" to the poll. I have just had so many issues with my jeep that I cant justify spending that much money on it again. Ive been back to various dealerships to fix reoccuring and new problems more times than I can cound (even the service manager commented on my track record when he looked it up).

Most recently a new error came up with "Service Transmission". The car is just under a year old with 11k miles on it. I shouldnt have to see a dealership except for my oil changes.

I am actually looking to get out of my jeep and into a 4runner. Theyre having a pretty good lease special going on right now and I personally think the design looks rugged and capable.

Moral of the story: If im going to spend 40k on a vehicle, im not going to be rushing back to the Jeep dealership without doing some shopping first.
