I'm not overly familiar with how those one's work, so hopefully someone chimes in here with the details (otherwise, you can probably rummage around and piece it together). However, as I understand it, you buy a membership and then request a control number. A few days later, you get the number and you are ready to go.

You could also try TrueCar.com. Very easy and very good.

I appreciate the info. I did try TrueCar.com, but my local dealer via Costco auto program beats them.

Wife and I are checking with our employers to see about the affiliate program.

Thx!

I first went to jeep and priced an Overland/Hemi and Overland/Diesel and asked for a quote.
Got a dealer response that was under Edmunds for both, with a note that the Diesels were "delayed"

Then, checked company website, went thru our affiliate program [quite large multinational company] and using a different address got a quote for that.

The affiliate pricing was only a tad less than the first offer on the overland/hemi.
Sorta depends on the dealer, some gouge for every last buck--or just try to maximise profit on a hot selling vehicle, some want you as happy with the deal as they can do and still stay thriving.

Of course when I went in, the sales manager and service manager recognized me and told the salesman to drop the price a few hundred and tossed in the adv tech package for just under half price since he could fill my order that way and I hadn't included it in the quote request. And all that cost me was a few cups of Starbucks [the dealer coffee seems made in china]

Re: PacNorWesters looking to order

That's the beauty of the group deals.

Basically, so long as you have a control number (so that the dealer gets a kick back from corporate), you can take part in some prenegotiated savings.

In Vorpel's case, 5% under invoice is the offer he's pursuing.

Question about the affiliate program. I'm happy to sign up for Tread Lighty, and another thread stated that they only send out the memberships on Friday. Question is - can I negotiate my deal as if I have the affiliate number without causing issues? Other posts seem to support this, but I would not want to deal in bad faith.

Also, anyone know if there is a 30 day waiting period for Tread Lightly?

Thanks

Yes, there is a 30 day waiting period. My dealer was very particular about it since they had been audited by Chrysler in the past.

Thanks for the reply. So, as long as I don't pick my JGC up for 30 days, I would be good to negotiate the deal now - just make sure the dealer is aware of the situation.

Re: PacNorWesters looking to order

So long as you are not ordering one you should be good. Most dealers will want that control number before they will submit an order.

If you know the dealer has what you want on the lot (or will by the time you are ready to rock and roll), then you should be fine.

Keep in mind, this will vary from dealer to dealer, this is just from my personal experiences.

Another one, outside of Tread Lightly is AccessFund.Org (they run about $35 if I recall). I *believe* they don't have a 30 day waiting period either...

On negotiating:
  • 1% under invoice is instant with a control number.
  • 2% under invoice should not be hard to get to (most dealers will go here without too much pushing).
  • 3% under invoice is where the fight will get thick. You can generally hammer on a dealer and get them to this point (but keep in mind a fair number will walk away from the sale at this point as you are cutting into their profit).
  • Above 3% under invoice, your chances of getting a deal decline rapidly without a group buy deal. At this point, the dealer is losing almost all profit with the only ability to recoupe the losses is by hitting quotas (hence, group buys work in this approach as they are pretty much assured they will move several more rigs this way). Kind of the Costco approach for buying pudding, the more product they move, the less they can charge for it and still make a profit.

Okay, quick update. I signed up through AccessFund.org and did the $35 donation. I saw on their website that they state that "Access Fund members in good standing for at least 30 days, you are eligible for preferred pricing on vehicles from Chrysler Group, LLC." The Access Fund donation thank you letter states:

"Thank you for joining the Access Fund!"
"You are now eligible for member rewards, including: Preferred pricing on most Jeep and Chrysler vehicles..."

I called the phone number and chose ext 104 and left a message. About an hour later I got a call and when I asked for the Chrysler Affiliate group ID she gave it to me. Entered it at the affiliate website and got my control number. Yea!!!!

Thanks everyone for your help. I trying the group buy out of Bremerton Jeep now.

Re: PacNorWesters looking to order

Cool Vorp, glad we could help.

I talked with the Bremerton folks a bit more and learned they changed the deal.

It seems to be working out to be even better than 5%. They are doing hold back minus $1500 (damn near 6% under invoice on a Summit).

As always, whip me a mail if you are in the Pacific Northwest and looking to save some cash on a new Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, I can point you in a few directions.

New to the forums, but I'm in the Seattle area and looking to buy a CRD in the near future. I tried to PM you but got denied since I don't have any posts... Can you please send me the info you have? Cheers!

Re: PacNorWesters looking to order

PM sent.

Let me know if I can help ya further.

The dealers seem to be closing out the hot deals, but a couple still are willing to wheel and deal.
