Paint Defect - Opinions needed!

I was just out washing my new 2014 Jeep for the first time and I noticed a paint defect on the right side edge of the front bumper. So, I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this and my chances of getting this fixed under warranty.

Hopefully the pictures are clear enough..

Re: Paint Defect - Opinions needed!

Well first off I must be blind because I don't see anything wrong lol. Atleast on my iPhone 6 screen. I will say this though, I bought a new factory fresh Summit last month and after a few washes and a waxing I have had time to see every inch of the paint up close and personal. There are a few minor defects in a couple areas. One looks like a piece of dust in the finish. I personally would absolutely not have it repainted. I would much rather have a small defect that no one is going to see versus an entire repainted panel that probably won't match color perfectly, will have varying clear coat texture that won't match the rest of the oem clear, and will have more defects than the original lol.
Just my opinion :-)

Oh and for what it's worth we just bought a new 2015 Honda Odyssey which is also white like my Summit, and I even noticed a couple very minor imperfections in that as well. It's normal man, leave it be and don't get it fixed, you will be more pissed with the crappy paint job that some shop does.

Re: Paint Defect - Opinions needed!

wow i guess people have differing ideas of defects!! looks like the paint was a little thinly applied to a square edge. could have been buffed a little too hard at pre delivery stage. i understand your concern but really? its a plastic front bumper its not going to rust and more than likely its going to be sand blasted in the first few weeks of ownership from following other traffic. i would leave it be and worry about other things in your life lol

I wouldnt mess with the factory paint unless you have to. A few years from now you may end up with a bumper a different shade then the rest of the car over something small like that or they wont put flex in the paint and it will crack with slightest bumping of something.

Re: Paint Defect - Opinions needed!

I think it's a mold seam in the plastic that should have been smoothed before being painted.

You could gripe. It's a separate piece and they might even be able to order one pre-painted from the factory.

The clear coat probably will still protect it from getting worse.

This is kind of what I was hoping for, but others seem to indicate they would just paint it...which I would rather not do...

Is it just the lighting or is the paint along the top of the seam issue lighter than below.

That doesn't look like damage to me, it looks like a paint defect.

As for painting it, any dealer with a pulse would know what type paint to use. For a second opinion, check a high end body shop in your area before you let them touch it.

Re: Paint Defect - Opinions needed!

to the OP, i have a white JGC too, and have the same paint defect or whatever you call it in the same spot. Noticed on my jeep the same thing on the rear panel near the tail lights and on top rear spoiler above the tailgate. Seems to only occur on the non metal parts of the jeep. Just as long as it dosent get worse or deteriorate i wont fuss with it.

Re: Paint Defect - Opinions needed!

Maybe it's on all the GC's and just tends to show up the most on the White.

Re: Paint Defect - Opinions needed!

Yep MSW I have to agree with you. It is a very hard edge for the paint to stick to. Mine is a little bare also on that seam but I can live with it. I'am more pissed about the orange peel paint than the little edge. Especially since mine is a post paint update build.
