Hello,
I used to paint custom cars and it is possible to paint without requiring a sand in between coats but it is highly variable depending on the area of the panel your painting. You must apply many passes over each area until the paint is thick enough so the surface tension can pull the irregularities out of the paint surface. This is extremely difficult where there are edges and creases that collect paint faster. You spend a split second too long on an area and it runs. The programming of a robot to have this kind of finesse is the difference between smooth and glossy and dull and orange peely. Itís far better to have a little orange peel than risk runs any day though.

Oh man don't tell me that, I thought they had it all sorted out for the production WK2's. I saw some early ones that had rough paint but I hoped the would get better.
