My guess is a disconnect or loose connection. I don't think paint would cause that much of a signal block. Can it hurt? Yes. But I doubt it would block it completely.
If the paint is a metallic color rather than a plain color, it will probably reduce the signal somewhat due to the metal particles reflecting some radio signal.
Maybe the connection behind the radio got loose when they removed the antenna to paint the roof? XM radio sounds fine and I believe am sounds fine as well
Paint shouldn't affect anything unless they threw some old lead paint from the 60's on there. Automotive paint should be RF transparent.
Don't forget, the signal has to travel miles to get to your car - a little paint won't hurt. Otherwise, your cell phone wouldn't work inside your vehicle cabin.
I recently installed a JL 12W7 as well as HD750/1 Class D amp.
I been doing research and Class D amps are known to obstruct FM waves.
I will look into it when I get home hope that's the cause.
Going to bring it back to them on Monday.
I unplugged the antenna cable and reception got a little better, as soon as I plugged it back in it became super staticky
My belief is the antenna is damaged
