Painting mirrors and Door Handles?

So now that there have been some actual pix's posted of the Platinum(satin) California edition. I don't like it. I am going to go with the non cali edition.

Anyone know "approximately" how much it would cost to paint the mirrors and the door handles?

Do they have to remove the door handles to do this? If so - I'm guessing that might be kind of pricey - because of the labor? Or can they just tape it off?

Thanks!

Re: Painting mirrors and Door Handles?

I'm curious as well.

I know the actual price will depend on which shop you select to do this work. I want to know Specifically what is done & how. I'm looking for actual painting & not some kind of plasti-dip or wrap.

Premium dealerships like Porsche & Land Rover often have relationships with local paint & body shops who they contract these projects to.

Re: Painting mirrors and Door Handles?

I talked to a local body shop about replacing my door handles, they quoted me $600 for the labor with me supplying the handles. Definitely shop around though, I found another shop that quoted $175. Now if my handles would just come in...

I ordered everything from allmoparparts. The handles were about $250 as we're the mirrors. They were both ordered in max steel. I have not received anything yet, 2 of the handles are on backorder. Unfortunately, you can't order the mirror caps, you have to order the whole mirror. I ordered Laredo mirrors since I only want the caps from them.

So ... you guys are talking about ordering 4 new door handles and 2 new mirrors in the body color and then having them installed. That sounds pricey.

I was more into going the route of having the existing chrome ones painted? Or can't you paint chrome?

I know it is common to "Black Out" a black Jeep - but I always assumed they painted everything instead of buying black replacement handles - moldings - logos etc.

Re: Painting mirrors and Door Handles?

I'm sure a good shop could paint the mirrors and handles. There is a good bit of prep to be done to paint chrome. With the labor involved to remove and prep and paint, the price is probably similar or higher than replacing. Paint, replace, vinyl wrap, and plasti-dip are options, choose what you like and what fits your budget.

I'm old enough (59) that you could order anything you wanted on a car. If the car normally came with bucket seats - you could get bench seats. You could select colors that were not available. Different gear ratios in the rear end. Cowl induction or no cowl induction.

Yeah - that's been awhile. And that's why some of those classic cars fetch 6 figures or more (unique one off features) Not today.

With paint and labor seems like it might be cheaper to just buy the already painted parts and have them installed

Yeah.

Except no one seems to have found the specific part numbers for these items, nor a good source for them.

With the introduction of the California Appearance Package with these painted items, hopefully the individual parts will now be available.

you can try getting a VIN number off a California Package car and calling a local dealer for part numbers
