Re: Parking Lot Ritual

I have always told my wife that if she is not out of breath by the time she hits the store door then turn around and park out further... and when she asked my what she should do if she cannot find a spot far enough away. It replied with "then you dont belong there" lol

You people are nuts.

You guys always talk about off roading and getting it "dirty" but worry about a parking lot. It's sad that Jeepers are talking like this. I have no problem taking my Jeep through a tight trail and letting tree branches bounce off of it or parking in a parking lot at the mall within a 2 mile radius of the door.

i think the difference here is the owner having control over damage (or possible damage) to their vehicle. Door digs or other parking lot scratches are a result of another driver's negligence, and thus quite a bit different.

Re: Parking Lot Ritual

I park far out or on a end spot, I got my first ding in my garage by my wife, cost me 90 to fix. I will say the ding guy was very good to 20 plus years.

I'm nuts? This is an almost 50 thousand dollar suv. I'll be damned if I'm parking next to some mini van with 8 kids piling out of it. Call me crazy but I'm the kinda guy who takes care of his stuff. You can treat your jeep like it's a 77 redneck truck if you want, but honestly, to me, that's what's nuts. But then again, I take care of all my stuff. I clean my golf clubs, rarely wear either of my 2 tag heuers to avoid damage and park my jeep away from careless morons who are oblivious.

And if we ever cross paths, your jeep door will look like shit and mine will be like the day I bought it. I'll look at your door and say to whoever is riding with me at the time that the way your door looks is why I park in spots at the back of the lot. Then, come trade in/sales time I'll make a few thousand more than you will because you're careless and I'm careful.

True story.

My Jeep doesn't get dirty. I live in Queens, what is this mythical thing called off-road?!?!

Exactly!

Some treat it like it is which is means of getting around and it will take the abuse whether parking lot dings/scratches or general road wear. I like to take care of my possessions. This has always helped me during the resale process. I always private sell my cars and the right buyers notice this part.

Regarding off-road driving, I would guess those $40k plus on a JGC are keeping it on pavement and perhaps some sand.

Regards,
NHman

Re: Parking Lot Ritual

IMO dings are inevitable unless your JGC his a garage queen. My biggest fear in mall parking lots is the guy parked across from me who throws it reverse and hits me in the rear while I am still in my spot. Those back up radar bumpers on my JGC must cost a fortune if I have to replace it. Worse, a woman was killed walking to her car at a mall near me by one of those "put it in reverse, hit the gas" dopes a couple of years ago.

Agree. Also those backup radars are truly lifesavers. I believe they are becoming mandatory shortly.

I actually asked this a while back in the thread. What do most of you do if you DO get back to your car and witness a door slam and a resulting dink? It's definitely an akward moment.

I get the guys insurance info, if they won't give it up then the ding they get is done with my foot like I'm kicking a 60 yard field goal and my name is (insert your favorite place-kickers name here). Then I file a comp claim and get my door fixed.

Then your insurance increases because you filed a claim. I would file a police report for a hit and run and get the plates.
