Re: Parking Lot Ritual

Interesting footnote to this thread. Here I am choosing my parking spots carefully, etc. etc. The other day someone parked right behind my jeep on an angle in my very own driveway. I was in a hurry and didn't see the car, the backup system went off, but there was no time to stop and my rear right tire wheel hit the other cars left back quarterpanel. When I got out I saw all white on my Jeep and the other car (Altima) had some pretty nice rivets along the whole quarterpanel. Now my Jeep is Charcoal and the Altima is black so when I saw the white I freaked out. Good news after cleaning the car there was virtually no damage to my Jeep. Goes to show you can never be too careful.

I'd do this. Not worth inflicting damage on the noob's car. Prob not even his/her car anyway.

I personally don't really care whether the park is close or far. I look for the one with space on either side and park far from the drivers doors.

Not fussed. (I'm in the "car is to be used" bucket)

Btw I wear my tag heuer Carrera all day every day (except when asleep or in the shower). I do wear it in the pool though. Again, it's a quality product to be used

Cared for? Yes. Babied? No

Re: Parking Lot Ritual

I park as far as possible in most places. I work downtown Detroit and the EMPLOYEE parking garage is where I got f'd on my last car. I never had a ding or scratch on it for the first year then once I started working downtown it got destroyed. So irritating when you know its your own co-workers who don't even care. Now I park on the roof of the garage in a corner regardless of the weather.

Re: Parking Lot Ritual

I park a bit diagonally within the space I have selected - occupying the ~full bounds of my space. This seems to help keep other drivers confined within their own space and away from my doors

In really tight spots, I park closest to the the car most likely to be as concerned about door dings as me !

Finally, I am proud of the dings, dents, scrapes, and trail pin striping caused by ME! Completely different than those caused by others.

Long back, I was carrying a canoe to pop onto the roof rack of my car. On the way over, I completely broad sided my back door with the POINTY end of the canoe! D'oh! I never fixed that NICE dent, because it was mine!

A friend of mine was mounting a rooftop box on his new Highlander. He made the mistake of kneeling on the edge of the roof. That pushed in a knee-size dent. He hired a guy to pull it out, but it will never look quite right.

I know this post is old but I cannot tell you how paranoid I am about this...what pisses me off most is that I go out of my way to park miles out from the grocery store with absolutely no one around me and it never fails; I will come out the store and there is guaranteed to be some jackass parked right up close to me...4 thousand other empty "closer" parking spots and they just HAVE to park 10 inches from your brand new JGC...gives me the red ass so bad.

One reason I am so paranoid is because no matter how safe I parked with my prior 01 JGC...my entire right hand side was beat to shit with pings and dings...there are seriously inconsiderate people on the roads who dont give a crap and just sling their door open, like they absolutely have no idea there is a car just three to four feet away....makes me wanna

Re: Parking Lot Ritual

We just did a trip from Alberta to California, the most stress was staying at the motels along the way. I found most motels along the way had few desirable spots and were in high density low income housing areas, I drove further into the evening to find a better motel a few times

Re: Parking Lot Ritual

I park at least a 60 second walk from any business I visit. You would be surprised how far of a walk 60 seconds is.Noone ever even comes close to parking near me.the 60 second rule works for me.Most ppl are too lazy to want to walk that extra distance.Cheers

...that's because he knows you care about door dings as much as her does. Its a good thing to now have a 1 car buffer between you and the real knuckleheads.

That's the first plausible explanation I've heard for why someone would park next to me when I've taken pains to find a remote spot. Thanks.

Re: Parking Lot Ritual

**This post is funny to read** Because you are all going to get dings. Maybe not from another persons door. But i can gaurantee you that you will get some stone chips. so for parking in a lot, the most concern I have is a young punk driving 40mph down the isle and crashing into me, or any kind of moving accident. I work in the Insurance Industry working on Auto claims and parking lots are the most common place for an accident. More than that tricky intersection that we all know and hate.
