Re: Parking Lot Ritual

Living in NYC I've come to realize there is never a safe spot unless it's your garage...lol

I work in the Insurance Industry working on Auto claims and parking lots are the most common place for an accident. More than that tricky intersection that we all know and hate.
Sadly this is so true. My poor BMW M5 has never been hit on the public roadway, but I've been nailed twice in parking lots (both times I was 100% stationary and had been in place for several minutes.)

what a douchey comment...

Re: Parking Lot Ritual

I've heard a lot of stories about people getting keyed or "mysteriously dented" while parked in remote spots. These stories are mostly when the vehicles are immaculately detailed, though.

So I try to create a balance where I'm not in the thick of the circus, but also not so far out that some idiot is going to single my car out for abuse because it's is shinier than his.

Row-end spots are my favorite, so I can put my tires a few inches from one curb, leaving an extra couple of feet on the other side. Of course, this has a drawback: doors on one side of the car will often be opening into bushes.

Just find a space where the passenger side is in the bushes. My wife just ~loves~ that!

Re: Parking Lot Ritual

I've been so careful with my 2009 Volvo S40...over 2 years and no parking lot dings that I can see.

So what happens? The other day I get rear-ended at a traffic light. Damage is minor (and covered in full by insurance) but will require a visit to the shop.

With the exception of the 5 month old GC, every car I've owned has been in some kind of accident.

That happened to my wife this morning...she parked way in the back 40 (as I have taught her and she picked up on it rather quickly) in an end spot against a curb at one of the office buildings she was visiting here and came out to find a huge dent/scratch on the driver's side door. Some people have no regard for anyone else's nice things. She is so pissed now that she is afraid to drive it anywhere. Not even 800 miles on the odometer...

So, the question is would this dirtbag have keyed the jeep had she been parked in the middle of a row of cars? I think dirtbags are the anomaly in the equation. They can't be accounted for or defended against.

The bottom line is I'll take the retards who swing doors wide and hard when exiting their vehicles, crushing all surrounding car doors mercilessly, out of the equation and ask god to keep the dirtbags away. What else can ya do?

Poorly written cuz I'm on an iPhone.

Re: Parking Lot Ritual

I am really careful, and my wife is even more careful.
We park far away from the crowd, and never ever beside a 2-door.
I try and pick nicer vehicles thinking their owners also care.
Consequently my 6 year old car only had one ding, and I was sitting in it when it happened.

Re: Wal-Mart. NEVER ever park in their lot.
I can count on one hand the number of times I've been in their store anyway,
but the one time i did park there, a kid (who "borrowed" his aunts car) hit my vehicle and stove in the bumper, then drove away.
A good Samaritan saw the whole thing, and left a note under my wiper with his license plate number.
The cops nailed him, and I didn't have to pay the deductible.
Because the vehicle was only a few years old, I told the insurance company I wanted a brand new bumper, and shock assemblies, and A-1 paint job.
I got lucky that time.
