Passenger Seat Seat Belt / Air Bag Senso

So this last week I noticed that my 2014 Overland passenger seat seat-belt sensor was not recognizing my wife in the seat (she likes to unbuckle the belt a couple of blocks from home), it worked up to then.

I took it to the dealer as they had to reconnect the lift-gate latch since they forgot to do it when re-seating the assembly.

He just called and said you have to be sitting in the seat just right, leaning back against it and that they checked other units on the lot and they all were like this and says he doesn't want to replace the sensor as it won't do any good.

Anyone else having a problem with this? I would hate for the airbags not to deploy properly due to this issue.

Just to understand fully, the sensor works up until unbuckling?

Re: Passenger Seat Seat Belt / Air Bag Senso

No way to really know, the system only notifies if the belt is unbuckled and someone is in the seat, it could be working when it is buckled, but I would guess that since it doesn't go off when it is not buckled, that it isn't working when it is buckled.

After talking to the service manager and stressing how this is very worrisome as it is a safety device, and would hate to have the airbags not go off in an accident, especially after bringing this to their attention would be very upsetting, he has decided to order a replacement.
