Re: Pay close attention on that walkthrough!!

If I remember correctly...the top auto line in initial quality(lexus I believe) in 2013 had 60-80(I forget the exact number...sorry) problems per 100 vehicles....when the worst(Rover) is 220 problems per vehicle. Seems like Jeep was around the 100-110 range per 100 vehicles or midway in the rankings.

Please post links to threads about assembly defects on other makes.

As for the Lexus engine noises you mention, it's not a defect. People complainant out the ticking sound of Lexus' direct injection system. I run a Lexus forum, I've read it many times.

Disturbing? You obviously don't have a lot of other areas of focus in your life. It's an Internet forum about a car...a little perspective is needed IMHO. To be "disturbed" by something posted about a car? That's more than a little dramatic.

Re: Pay close attention on that walkthrough!!

Since you mentioned Honda ... My last vehicle was an '11 MDX.

The RR door always looked like it was open ... I let it ride.

The entire dash was off center ... they had been for 3 years and Acura said they weren't fixing it until the next redesign.

Many folks were getting low battery warning. For almost 2 years they blamed the customers, saying they were using things like the power tailgate too often, taking too many short trips, etc. They even reminded the dealers that charging the battery was not covered under warranty. Eventually they had either a tab or recall which included changing a cable with a sensor in it, upgrading software, and in my case a new battery.

There was a recall for the tranny, which included a software update and a free flush and fluid change. I guess something inside was making a mess.

Navigation went out. The second replacement unit was a good one.

The leather was starting to show some abnormal wear before 6 months. It didn't need to be changed yet, but the dealer put pictures in my file, because they said otherwise Acura would claim it was normal after 6 months.

I traded the MDX for the Jeep with less than 10,000 miles on it.

It wasn't a bad car, but no better than the Jeep.

Re: Pay close attention on that walkthrough!!

I wish the list of issues I've had with my Jeep was as short as the one you just shared here with your MDX lol.

Look, don't think I don't like my Jeep. I do, VERY much. If anything it's a testament that I've kept it despite all the issues I've had. My wife thinks I'm crazy. Because I do like it so much, I'd like for Jeep to deliver a quality product so I can buy another one someday.

You'd be just as frustrated as all of us that have had issues if you were in our places.

2013 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study | J.D. Power Autos

Jeep is at 118, just behind Land Rover at 116 (problems per 100 vehicles, so they are about the same). Both are worse than the industry average, but only slightly.

True Blue often looks like black when not in direct lighting.
There seem to be a large number of quality issues reported with the 2014 JGC. The fuel filler door is only one example.

In the case of the wrong seats, was the color different from the rest of the interior, or was the interior color also wrong? I assume the seats fitted were the standard version but the multi-contour seats had been ordered?

I'm sure this kind of thing happens on the line all the time with other makes too...the difference is its caught before it leaves the plant...not when the customer has his vehicle in his driveway. "The colors are so close!" BS. Be professionals! We're spending some of us $55k+ for your product, its not unreasonable for us to expect all the parts will match...when somehow every other manufacturer is able to get them to match. They all match on a $15,000 Toyota Yaris! I read the Toyota forums, nobody posts saying "I got the wrong fuel door". If it was just this one time it would be a laughable oddity, but there are a great many posts about similar problems to these on this forum.

I have owned many cars, and I post on and read MANY forums ranging from foreign luxury makes to domestic mainstream makes...I have NEVER read the stories about QC that I have read here. Absolutely NEVER. Remember the large batch of Summits that shipped with Overland steering wheels with wood that was a completely different color, red vs grey?!? How did they get out of your plant?

This is ridiculous...and the "**** happens" response is the absolute truth about how Chrysler must approach this situation for these lapses in QC to continue... Terrible. Its such a shame too because its such a nice vehicle...
Great post and you are by far the most objective poster in this thread. People actually defending these issues and saying, it's not a big deal, the colors are so similar and blah, blah, blah, excuse after excuse....Obviously missing the bigger picture.

Instead of saying, 'That shouldn't happen' or even admitting QC is lacking, they are feeling personally attacked (for reasons beyond me) and respond in kind with, "Well, other manufacturers do it too, so it's okay that it happens." Blind homerism at its finest.

Some people don't mind mediocrity; they're okay with their children being 'C' students; are okay with the status quo; and don't demand things being done right because, you know, "S*it Happens".

^ +100

It amazes me too all the issues the 2014 GC seems to suffer with, and how many people here (even the ones directly impacted) are just willing to "poo-poo" them away.

I still love my 2014 GC Limited believe it or not (love / hate relationship), no other vehicle built today has as many features for the money or looks as good/handles as well, but because of what I've had to endure owning this Jeep, I just don't trust its reliability nor the dealership network for the repair work.

HA, you should have seen my 2011 Acura TL - at the bottom of the window had a miserable height difference at the point where it opens on all 4 doors. The driver front fender partially popped off after 10k miles, dealer claimed someone started to pry it off - yes, they managed to pry it off to get at that valuable something or another and without leaving any marks.

Don't get me wrong, I realize there are issues out there with the Jeep, I've had a couple. I just don't get how people can make statements like this doesn't happen to ANYBODY else.

While we are at it here are the list of issues I had with my Acura, because Honda and Toyota have no issues, and I considered it reliable:
- Issues mentioned above with gaps and panels coming lose, let that go
- None stop rattling in the back - turned out to be a common issue from earlier years, TSB through 2010, but I still had it in my late model 2011
- Transmission would shudder on 1 to 2 shift and or just slam gears if I had to lift at a bad time. Transmission recall and extended warranty, flash didn't fix issue, dealer insisted no issue. I am pretty sure that thing was on its way to eating a transmission. Acuras aren't really known for having great transmissions.
- Occasionally when turning gas would be completely dead like it wasn't getting a signal than surge forward. Impossible to reproduce as needed, no action
- Nav system would sometimes show name from phone book, some times wouldn't - never brought it up
- Nav system would sometimes duplicate names in the phone book, clear, reimport - never brought it up
- Seat would make a metal click noise when you got in and leaned back - could never reproduce on demand
- When putting in park the doors would unlock and the driver side would groan - traded before fixed
- High pitched engine whistle would develop at 35mph - traded before fixed
- Occasional hard starting when warm
- When AC was on it would kick in every 5 seconds, the car would surge forward when stopped with my foot on the brake, almost impossible to keep it from moving forward at least a little - annoying as hell
- When AC would kick on in high heat the whole car would shake a little, very luxurious - annoying as hell
- Rear subwoofer would some times sound completely blown even at the lowest volumes - couldnt reproduce of course
- Wheel locks rusted after 1 summer, not even a winter - replaced
- After 6 months of ownership the key fob looked like it was 20 years old and every piece of paint had chipped off it
- Would randomly get message on EVIC saying my DRL were out, they werent.
- Acura Connect was suppose to connect your phone and give you information about the car, etc, never worked once. Would always just say it failed to connect to the server.
- Dealer said it was impossible to get car in White with Umber interior (redish/brown color) - until one showed up on their lot. Maybe someone put the wrong interior in it?

Yet I still considered it one of the most reliable cars I ever owned because it started and ran every day

Re: Pay close attention on that walkthrough!!

Here's an interesting Car & Driver article about J.D. Powers ratings. It refers to a year when Ford dropped 18%, although C&D didn't notice a big drop in Ford quality.

They seem to think that a lot of the 'complaints' were caused by people not knowing how to use the new technology, even when it was working properly.

Maybe too many people depended on internet forums (the butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker) for their information, rather than reading the owner's manual . Where have I heard that before.

Maybe we should all agree to disagree :-)

But let's agree on the value of the thread, some want to vent - check.
Some want to argue - check.
These 2 above are just the nature of the Internet.
We will never settle the argument which brand is better but we can at least agree on the clear value of a good post.

The OP reported a wrong colored gas door in a cool and calm manner, no crying and no arm raising.
We then had a factory guy suggesting a cause and a fix. Not only that a solution that sounds both the right one, and inexpensive to implement.

How is that not brilliant?

Personally I want to learn about minor problems as an owner and want Jeep to hear about them so they can act quickly.

ALL jeep owners want their brand to improve quality and to pass the 80 problems per 100 vehicle the leader had in 2013, but this doesn't happen in one year. When you understand the number of moving parts in a modern vehicle, and know that in the above statistics, a stuck throttle that leads to a deadly accident is the same weight a wrong color door, you may realize that this is not a bad starting point.

So let's keep hearing about these problems, and hope they are all small...........
