Re: Pay close attention on that walkthrough!!

I think most Jeep GC enthusiasts here are a bit disheartened that the 2014 has had more of these QC issues than what should happen...at least what we feel should happen (and apparently more than a few magazines and polls agree). My 2011 has been great....and I'd like all new GC owners to have that same great experience from the get go. Jeep needs to double down on its success with the GC and really tighten up QC to continue to throw off the old idea that American made cars are not up to foreign made cars quality standards. It should be a motivational/competitive challenge. I'm confident Jeep can do it!

What threw fuel on the fire I think was the "s**t happens" tongue in cheek comment from a guy who actually makes the wonderful GC. In reality, that isn't the real attitude....and I think people took it like it was and were a tad irritated that such an attitude would prevent Jeep from taking it to the next level. I'm sure the guys and gals on the line have pride in their work and are striving for ever better QC. Go Jeep! :-)

The problem here I'd that this is the wrong argument. I haven't seen too many people being "fanboys" as has been claimed. Myself included. I see two types.

One is a type that, for reasons only they can can possibly know, show up in every thread about an issue or problem and make the following claims:

1) Jeep quality control is the worst. Worse than every other company that makes vehicles of similar utility and expense.

2) No other manufacturer of said vehicles has issues like this.

Then there is the other type. The supposed fanboys that make the following claims:

1) Jeep quality control could of course use improvement. So could everyone else's, but it isn't at the bottom of the pile by any means.

2) Plenty of other manufacturers have similar issues. It would be lovely if no manufacturer had these issues, but they do.

For this, they are "fanboys." I note that neither I nor anyone else are claiming Jeep is perfect or that it couldn't make improvements. We do however take issue with misrepresentation--of any form. It gets really old to see some people exaggerate the issues or scale of the issues while exaggerating the perfection of other brands. I'd take exception to people doing the same thing on any topic. I prefer people to deal rationally with facts, not rhetoric.

It IS traumatic. Maybe you have gobs of free time, but I'm a busy man and I don't have time to be bringing the Jeep back to the dealer continually for this bullish!t. THEN...no loaner, even when they have my Jeep for 5 DAYS to repair multiple warranty claims including a production defect.

If you feel it's okay for the purchaser of a vehicle of this price to have to make repeated trips to the dealer to rectify improperly installed parts from production...then like I said...you deserve what you get. You may not have these problems...but a lot of us do. It's a car...it's not your child. Love for a thing that is unconditional is just foolish.

If they don't fix it my dollars will go elsewhere next time...regardless of how great a vehicle the Jeep is...to a manufacturer who respects the money I'm paying for their product.

At least you won't have to argue that you didn't drive home and change out fuel doors! I'd say they pretty much HAVE TO fix this one!

From THEIR experience, yes this could be very true...I know it is from MY experience, and I've owned many vehicles from many different manufacturers. I've never bought a new vehicle that has had as many problems as my 2014 GC has had in the first year of ownership...and so far my dealership experience at Chrysler/Jeep has been the worst as well.

Hear Hear! My thoughts exactly.

My 2014 GC has spent WAY too many days at the dealership in its first year of ownership...far too many compaired to all the other vehicles I've owned from other manufacturers.

And like yourself, if I feel I've bought an inferior or unreliable product...or a product I feel the manufacturer doesn't support reasonably well, I simple go elsewhere. Simple as that...it's my money, right?

I don't think the the problems with 14' GC would have been as bad if the dealerships had more understanding of the consumer. My local Jeep dealerships service department has done a 360 turn around because they started losing normal, and longtime customers. I myself think the 14 was released too early, especially when all the new technology had been revealed that would be included in the launch of the 14. I had a 2010 GC that had little ridiculous things wrong with it and the local Jeep dealership was not willing to fix the problems. anyways. I traded in the 10 on a MY12 this has a couple of issues but I can live with them because my local dealership has pretty signed an "oath" to provide their customers with better service. I think a lot of turmoil with the 14 has to do with Jeep on a dealership level. No the dealerships didn't build the Jeeps but the dealership is the cushion between jeep and the consumer. I agree that a lot of dealerships could have played much better roles in some of the issues we have seen on here. With that being said, the refresh was rushed in my opinion and I think a lot of the dealerships weren't educated properly on the 14. Jeep is a great product, it can be much greater if they can get QC under control. Call me a fanboy if you want, but Jeep shouldn't be classified with Luxury brands.. it's not what a Jeep is. If Jeep is shooting for that then yes, they need to get a lot more under control then just saying "let the dealership fix it" good luck with your jeeps.

And from THEIR experience it would be completely valid to say as such...from THEIR point of view. But that isn't what is said. Generalities are used indicating that it's the worst for everyone which simply isn't true and indicates a very narrow, self-only focused worldview. I can have a great deal of sympathy for an individual having issues. I lose that sympathy very quickly when that individual begins making assertions that their experience simply must be everyone else's as well.

I am trying hard to justify a JGC. It's very difficult to ignore Consumer Reports, KBB, Edmunds, JD Power, Truedelta, and of course many horror stories on this website.

Purchase decision is now on hold until the 2015 model year in hope that Jeep can get its act together.

No fan-boys, all is not OK now!

Put on your big boy pants and make a decision on your own. If everyone followed CR, no brand would be alive. It's just the nature of the journalistic beast.
