Pennsylvania Lemon Law & Jeep

I have a '12 JGC Overland that I've had for nearly 6 months and about 7600 miles. Over the past few months I've had it in the shop twice for the Quadra-Lift system not functioning due to low air mass. Both times they've gone over the system and failed to find a leak or malfunction to explain it, refilled the system and it subsequently works again for a short time.

As of this morning I picked it up this most recent time from the shop and between the dealership and my home (25 highway miles) it stopped working again... I live in Pennsylvania where the 'lemon law' precedent is that after 3 attempts to fix the same problem within 12 mo. or 12k miles your vehicle may qualify as a "lemon" and be eligible for replacement and/or refunding the price of the vehicle.

Has anyone had any experience with Jeep and 'Lemons' in Pennsylvania? I would love to hear about any insight or experiences you all may have. I spoke with Jeep Customer Service about this earlier today and they said that they would "perfer to handle it between Jeep and myself rather than me obtain a consumer law attorney" should it come to that... I'm not sure what to expect.

Thanks ahead of time for the insight!

I recently had an experience in Florida where Jeep bought back my 2011 GC. I did not have to pursue the case in court which is preferable. Chrysler was great to deal with. Basically they gave me msrp minus usage for the 2011 and I purchased a 2012. I would talk with Chrysler first and see what they say

The best way is to handle it by working directly through Jeep with the aid of an attorney who can put your concerns and expectations in writing. The dealer is in the middle; they can't buy or negotiate diddly when it comes to vehicle swap/buy-backs (which is where I think you're headed). I will say one thing, and that is a manufacturer is more likely to put forth "effort" if they believe you're going to be a repeat customer and pass along good things to say after it's all said and done. Yes, they have a legal obligation with the lemon law, but that angle is more expensive on both sides and I believe they'll fight you if they think you're a lost cause. Saying that, it's probably in their interest to work something out with you if they can't fix it, but you have the upper hand if you can document what you need to enforce your state's lemon law. If you don't start out nasty (be firm but very polite) you may get through this without much fight, IMHO. Do consult an attorney who has some experience in this area and they can be far more informative than even the wealth of info on this great forum. Good luck!

It's not quite that simple. The 'problem' needs to be something that keeps making the vehicle completely undriveable or could be considered a safety issue.

Not true... It just needs to be a problem they have not been able to correct in the time allowed under the lemon law. There have been many vehicles bought back that were both safe and driveable.

Re: Pennsylvania Lemon Law & Jeep

Wish I could be of help, but offhand I'd be inclined to try another dealer. Around us there are many dealers, but only faraway Bergey's is really good. Altoona is smaller, but there are other dealers not all that far from Altoona, so perhaps one of them can cut the mustard.

Barring that, perhaps your raising the stakes so high will prompt Jeep to send out a specialist to go over your vehicle to see if the precise cause can be unearthed.
