Re: People LOVE this Jeep...

Here in Southern Ontario I wouldn't describe the Grand Cherokee as commonplace. Not yet anyway.
So yeah, I do catch admiring glances when I drive by on the highway.
Just today I caught caught a teenager in a rice rocket admiring my 20" wheels.
(of course at his height, thats all he could see. )

Haven't had anyone come up to me at like a gas station and ask about it.
I've only owned it since November, so maybe when the temps are in the PLUS degrees that will change.

Re: People LOVE this Jeep...

I just picked up my WK2 this morning - and I LOVE this jeep!

Coming from a BMW 3-series, this car is a dream

Re: People LOVE this Jeep...

In my opinion the A5 is one of The nicest designs currently available. The engine choices suck though. Too much car for the overworked 2.0. 3.2 is nice but no stick and the 4.2 stick is history. An S5 4.2 ragtop with a clutch is probably the neatest car they never built.

Yeah, I love the design of the car. It looks fantastic from any angle. But most of your info is either wrong or outdated when it comes to the engine/transmission choices.

First, the 2.0T isn't at all overworked. That engine makes 258 lb ft of torque from just 1500 RPM and it maintains that peak output all the way through 4200 RPM. The car actually feels a lot more powerful than it is because of the excellent low end torque output. It actually makes more low end torque than the 3.2 V6. In fact, even the 4.2 V8 has to be at ~3000 RPM before it matches the torque output of the 2.0T. Sure, the V8 is more powerful and makes the car faster, but the 2.0T can easily match the V8 output with nothing but a bolt-on KO4 turbo upgrade and a tune. I'm not bothering to do that with my A5, simply because it's more than fast enough for me as it is right now. The car has effortless acceleration and excellent passing power on the highway. I don't even bother shifting out of 6th gear to pass on the highway. It's such a great engine and I normally get 32 mpg without even trying (but mostly highway driving).

Secondly, the 3.2 V6 has been discontinued in the A5 for a couple of years now. The only engine choice (in the US market) for an A5 is the 2.0T. When the 3.2 was available, it did come with a stick. I know a guy who has one.

And finally, the 4.2 V8 in the S5 still comes with a stick. There are no plans at all to stop offering stick in US models. And BTW, starting next year, the 4.2 V8 is dead in these cars. It will be replaced with the supercharged 3.0 V6, which is the same engine that they've already been putting in the convertible S5 models.

Here's my A5 after a quick wash on a warm winter day here in NY. You can also see my 4Runner in the garage...

I too love the A5. I have a neighbor who had one (actually he is on his second WK2, he had a 2011 V6 Limited that he traded on a 2012 Overland Summit Hemi) he traded it on a sedan though because they have a baby. I have a couple other friends who have them, my boss has an S5. Great cars, if I were buying a high end coupe...thats what I would buy.

Re: People LOVE this Jeep...

i have had my overland for just over a week but i haven't taken it out much. went by the bank today to deposit a check and right as i pulled up, and before i could even press the call button, the guy inside was all "well that must be brand new!!" and i go "yeah, i got it a week ago." he told me how great it looked - more than once. i was actually surprised that he could tell it was new but i did just have it detailed not even an hour ago so it still looked pristine.

so then i moved the QL down to entry mode because i couldn't reach that thing that you put your checks in (before it sucks them away). and he bursts in over the intercom: "OMG I just saw it settle!!!" and i laugh and say, "well, no it didn't settle, i put it into park mode". you could tell he was blown away. so then i show him all the other modes and he's totally impressed and was talking about how nice he had heard the new JGC were. seriously, the guy could not stop talking about how amazing my overland was (all this occurred over the intercom at the drive-thru). it was awesome as a new jeep owner to get that kind of love from a stranger.

Re: People LOVE this Jeep...

i have had a few compliments from mates about it. All my mates are into big proper 4WDs and do a lot of 4WDing and Rock crawling, and most where a bit worried when i said i was buying a Jeep. Once they actually saw it and went for a drive they where quite impressed. Obviously not a big rock crawling 4wd but still a nice 4wd with some big diesel balls
