Pessimistic EVIC?

My EVIC will switch to the low fuel warning when DTE drops to around 35 miles. I generally drive another ~20 miles and then fill up. When I do my HEMI only takes 22-23 gallons. Since the tank is supposed to be 26 gallons, it would seem my DTE calculation is very pessimistic.

Just curious how much far you push it after the low fuel warning comes on and how much fuel your WK2 takes when you do?

Re: Pessimistic EVIC?

I remember the manual saying the low fuel indicator would turn on when the vehicle has 3 gallons left.

This is what I thought unless the V6 & V8 are different, which seems unlikely.

Re: Pessimistic EVIC?

Most fuel indicators will be pretty conservative, or else lawsuits would start to fly like crazy when people run out of gas prematurely

Re: Pessimistic EVIC?

I dont have solid facts but I have been told by a tech at work whom has been in the industry 15-20 years, he told me that 1st of all, there needs to be some air space to allow expansion and contraction space, furthermore there is a couple gallon buffer from E. In my 4.7WK I have driven 23 miles home from work with my evic saying 0 miles to empty (hey, the gas station by my house was known to be cheaper by 10 cents per gallon that 2 dollars I saved was worth the risk )

Re: Pessimistic EVIC?

I have yet to have a low fuel warning in my Wk2, but in previous cars, there is usually 3 gal remaining when the light is triggered. 3 gal can either go very quickly or very far depending on the driving.

That's right for both engines, according to page 530 of the owner's manual.
